The Hungry Road
It’s a Friday night and we’re meeting up with some friends! One of them suggested Marker 37 for a variety of reasons and today, we’re going to find out why! Here’s how things went for me during my visit.

Atmosphere/Appearance: Set right on the Connecticut River in Chester, CT connected to its own marina is this gem. Reservations are recommended especially in the summertime since THIS is the place where you wanna be. We were here in early April so things hadn’t quite picked up, but at least the snow was gone and we didn’t need to wear super heavy coats. The parking lot is massive so if it’s busy you’ll be walking for a minute before you get to the door. But once inside it’s pretty modern, chill and relaxed. The decor isn’t over-the-top. Everything is straight-edged and just… almost minimalistic. However, we sat in the patio area that was certainly heated so we could see the view of the water while the sun set. It was a wide-open setting and I’m very glad the restaurant didn’t smash too many tables and chairs in there.

Service: I can’t remember who took care of us, but I don’t remember having any issues throughout dinner. It was fairly slow so I didn’t expect any hold-ups.

Food/Drinks: I started off with an old-fashioned which was fine. Nothing crazy. Next up was a New England clam chowder which is perfectly seasoned and flavorful. Textures were good and so were the seasonings. Spot-on. For dinner I went with their Prime Rib! It came out perfectly medium-rare with a side of fingerling potatoes, grilled squash, au jus and horseradish sauce. It was good. Just… kinda not exciting. :-/ Maybe I should’ve gone the seafood route since we were on the water. But no matter.

Value: Not too crazy here. It’s a nice restaurant, but prices aren’t out of control. You can totally come here to chill, have a drink and an app or a full-on family dinner and not be upset at the final bill.

In conclusion I liked it here, just not enough to want to drive all the way out here again. Would I come back? Sure, if I were invited by friends and stuff, but I highly encourage you reading this to pay this place a visit and enjoy the views! Thank you for reading.

Maker 37 has a gorgeous, secluded setting right on the Connecticut River, and the terrace view alone is worth the visit. Watching boats drift by under a blue sky, surrounded by colorful autumn trees, truly feels special — the location and view are amazing!

As for the food — while everything was tasty, it didn’t quite match the premium pricing. Our lunch came to almost $50 per person, and for that, we expected a bit more creativity and finesse. The menu leans toward classic bar fare rather than elevated dining. The mozzarella sticks were crispy and flavorful for sure, and the chicken wings (loaded with garlic) were good, but not really worth their upscale price tag. The pistachio liqueur was a pleasant touch — nice, though not particularly creative or outstanding.

Overall, the ambiance and location are the true highlights here, making it a great spot to relax by the river and enjoy a meal with friends. But if you’re coming primarily for the culinary experience, the food quality doesn’t quite justify the cost. Still, this is a beautiful place for lunch with an unforgettable view.

We visited the restaurant. We were surprised that the wine was served in water glasses. Although there were wine glasses behind the bar, it was quite inconvenient. We accidentally spilled some on the table. To which the waitress who served us, Lacey G., did not even react. We wiped the table with the napkins that we had. They brought hot dishes. They did not remove the dirty soup plates. Until they made a remark: The service is disgusting!!! The food is quite tasty. I would hardly recommend my friends to come here, and only because of the service. We were left with an unpleasant impression and a ruined mood. I hope the manager will pay attention to our review. Thank you.

Lovely atmosphere. Patio decor with teak tables. Music was a delightful a nice compliment without being overbearing on a conversation. Truffle fries and Parmesan roasted Brussels spouts. Cheesecake cannoli, and flourless chocolate tort lava cake. Muscles were also excellent.

First time for dinner last night at Marker 37. Kate Sudol who is the GM was our hostess and server. She promptly greeted us with smiles and sat us at the best table in the house. Kate took our order and also spent a moment to explain the Miracle Bar at Marker 37 concept. Kudos to Chef and their team for creating such a delicious meal. From the Crispy Brussels Sprouts to the Fall Harvest Salad, Clam Chowder and the Filet Beef Tips. Absolutely cooked to perfection. Can’t forget the House made Tiramisu. We look forward to being back in April and this summer with the boat. Continued Success in 2026

Great view, great service. Very loud. Not a place I would go for a quiet dinner. Seemed understaffed. Our server was working her butt off. She was great. The food was hit or miss. Got a variety of things. The clam chowder was good. The lobster bisque was not. The scallop appetizer was good. The coconut shrimp was not. It was a little overcooked and greasey, and you can tell the oil they cooked it in was old and needed to be changed. Got the shimp and claim scampi, not even sure what they made or how long ago they made it, but it was not good. Took one bite and physically could not eat it. Also ordered the ahi tuna tacos again terrible, not fresh and overcooked. Thought I was eating canned tuna. You can see in the pics. Did not eat it. It seemed like all this food is being made by a short order cook who is just reheating a bunch of prepared food. Unfortunately, nothing seemed fresh. It was not too expensive tho for a marina style restaurant. Maybe just an app and burger/ sandwhich place with a cool atmosphere.

My boyfriend was about to take me here for our upcoming anniversary. Until we were told that the workers were working with Covid and the restaurant knew about it, but now it has new ownership, and we decided to take another chance. So new place. New owners. Came in, and the place is pretty inside. Very quaint, and we came for lunch, so it’s not a large crowd. Nice menu, not super allergy friendly, but was able to find something to eat with a few tweaks. Had a fig and Prosciutto flat bread. My crew of people mostly got the fish tacos, salads, and a burger. The waiter was friendly and accommodating. We all had a nice time. The food was delicious.
Came a second time, and this time, we ate outside. It was windy, but they put down the side to accommodate us. The table actually was perfect for a wheelchair and we were so elated. Does not happen often. We had a great night, but the service was slower because it was so busy, but we weren’t in a rush. We enjoyed our drinks, appetizers, meals, and dessert. Great food, great conversation. Even took some pictures after with the beautiful view.

Went here on a Wednesday night because they were listed as a supporter of the Goodspeed Opera House and we had tickets for a show that night and the drive is only 10 minutes away. We were offered both inside and outside dining and chose the covered/enclosed outside area which has heaters (which they kindly turned on for me). What a gorgeous river view.
I enjoyed their “Perfectly Pear-ed” pear martini and hot buttered lobster roll (have to love lobster in October!!). I also thought their New England Clam & Corn Chowder was yummy.
Our water did come in a plastic “solo” cup, but that’s my only complaint.
There was a guitarist playing inside that evening and the volume was fine outside.
Can’t wait to try this place again, particularly when the outside cover/enclosures are up.

Food was very good, service was very quick and friendly. View from outside patio is awesome over the Connecticut river.
I will be eating there again .
Just visited the restaurant again and I love .
Food was delicious and tasty, my only complaint is that place was full so we have to wait for the food little longer but was worth it.

Ate the fish and chips and short rib grilled cheese both were very good. The sourdough bread on the short rib was a rye with caraway seeds, was expecting a plain white sourdough bread. But all and all, it was good, the ambiance on the river with an open patio makes it a great experience.
