Went here for Valentine’s Day, really because most other Persian restaurants were fully booked. We thought maybe we would get lucky and run into authentic Persian food and help a small business owner.
My husband and I were the only customers here. The food was all clearly precooked, evident by the fact that it was visible in warming trays under the class counter. There was no price list visible, but we were unconcerned as clearly food in this type of establishment, with precooked food displayed in a food bar, should not be too costly. – I took a screenshot of another customer’s picture for reference.
The woman serving us appeared kind, she suggested the lentil rice which was the special for the day. My husband and I both ordered the lentil rice. My husband had his rice with a few pieces of zucchini. I ordered Mirza-Ghasemi, Ash Reshte, torshee, and a doogh.
The first table we sat on was extremely wobbly so we reluctantly sat at the table closest to the door. The woman was sitting at the only other table and had her stuff there, so there was no other choice. Throughout our dinner she was watching something on her phone that was quite loud.
We were served and began to eat. The food was clearly nuked in the microwave, evident by the fact that one side of my mirza ghasemi burnt my tongue and the other side was not even heated up properly and the lentil rice was too dry and the lentils rubbery. The zucchini was actually quite gross and, though I usually love zucchini we didn’t even eat the few pieces we were served. The doogh which can be bought at local stores was good, though not as carbonated as it should have been. The Mirza-Ghasemi, Ash Reshte, and torshee tasted as they should, but as I said earlier the food had been heated back up in a microwave, which I deliberately avoid in my own life.
Perhaps I would have chosen not to leave a review and made excuses for a small business owner and just not left a review…but the price at the end was quite outrageous. The bill which she calculated right at the register came out to over 80 dollars. I mean white rice and lentils alone were 18 dollars a piece. My husband is a non-confrontational person, so for his sake I did not say anything to the woman who appeared to be owner. However, I am opposed to those who believe it’s their right to rob others. I walked out feeling quite scammed. I hope that she reads this review and immediately changes this shameful practice. If nothing else, maybe I can help out someone else who would likely be robbed at this establishment.
It was raining and I ordered Ash-Reshte, oh wooow, took me back to 15 years ago
Marjan carryout & catering is a small place, at first I thought they are only carry out but they have three tables inside if you want to seat and order something.
Customer service from hamed was pretty warm and welcoming.
Thanks for everything!
I will update my review when I taste something different from their menu.
We tried ghaymeh and kabob koobideh!
My goodness, it was the worst food experience we ever had in the area. The ghaymeh was old and tasteless and the kabob, seemed that was frozen!!
It was tough and tougher to eat!!
It was our first time and the last time!
By the way, even though I had some of the kabob, later I experienced a really bad stomach ache!
Definitely not recommending this establishment!
We tried Ghorme Sabzi, Baghali polo, Koofteh, Lubia polo, yogurt and cucumber, everything was great!
*Update: Excuse me???? Not seeing my name in your orders? She literally called me today asked me to remove the review and even said it herself that the food was from two days ago. I also attached the receipt since she is calling me a liar.and please sort the reviews on lowest reviews you will see every one complaining that their food is too old.
As long-time customers, we expected the fresh, home-cooked quality this place was once known for. Instead, it felt like they were cutting corners and taking advantage of loyal patrons. Sadly, we can no longer recommend them.
I tried the Tabrizi Kufte which is a huge meatball! It was cooked and shaped perfectly! Loved it so much. Highly highly recommended to visit!
I love the place. Owner was wonderful woman.
