My wife and I joined four friends for dinner at Mario’s Portofino in Midtown Reno. For a Thursday evening, this restaurant was surprisingly busy, and both the main dining area and private room were both packed full. Thankfully we made reservations a week in advance. The bar was also filled, and so were all of the lounge tables as well. We enjoyed cocktails and wine, all with generous pours, which matched well to the prawns wrapped in pancetta we had for the appetizer. Since I brough an appetite, the spinach salad with sliced apples, candied walnuts and topped with crumbled Gorgonzola was also served. For dinner we enjoyed several dishes, but the most popular was the linguine Corleone, manicotti Mediterraneo, lasagna pasticciata, and chicken piccata. For dessert we enjoyed the coconut cheesecake and triple chocolate flourless cake, but the crowd favorite was definitely the panna cotta topped with berries. Overall, everybody loved the food, and had a lovely evening.

I started w the Spinach Salad which had; sliced apples, candied walnuts, gorgonzola and house made honey balsamic vinaigrette. Then, calamari and these were like what I had in Italy so lite and fresh. Third, had the Cioppino filled w prawns, lobster, claws, muscles, calamari, fresh fish, garlic spices in a rich wine tomato broth. Finally, I had the most delicious coconut cheesecake, like no other w toasted coconut flakes and caramel drizzle.

My husband and I went to dinner as a spontaneous outing. I can’t recommend this restaurant enough. We were greeted by the owner, the staff was unbelievably welcoming and attentive, the food was delicious. It was definitely a night to remember. We will be going back as often as possible. I highly recommend.

For an Italian restaurant, Mario’s Portofino has one of the most well stocked cocktail bars in Reno! I visited for lunch, and was pleasantly surprised by the large selection they offered. I highly recommend the Angel Chicken Marsala and Tangerine Chicken Salad!

This is our go-to place for birthdays, anniversaries, and other special occasions. I highly recommend getting a reservation if you’re coming on a Friday or Saturday night. If you don’t get a reservation, there may be a wait. This place is very popular with the locals. It is one of the oldest Italian restaurants in town and definitely my favorite. They have a great menu and sometimes it’s hard to decide what you want to eat. I love that they have daily specials. I’m always excited to find out what the specials are before I place an order. I said it before and I’ll say it again, this place is top notch ambiance, top notch service, and top notch food quality. I’ve never had a bad time here.

This place is great and I love the environment! We came in a Lil late but they didn’t have a problem with it. Stephanie was or server and she was great! Very attentive, nice, and understanding. We got some mushroom ravioli, some plain pasta and some lasagna. Everything came out wonderful.. my son never finishes his food but he did today! I highly recommend this place!

I’ve been coming here for years. The owner loves to greet his guest with a smile and cheer. The food and service are great, but the atmosphere and local feel is over the top. Great with friends or on a date. At the bar or in a booth it’s warm and inviting.

Went to Mario’s on a Thursday for our friend’s birthday. We have been a couple years in a row since it is her favorite restaurant and the food is always great. This year, she recognized our server from the last time we were there, and brought to his attention it was her birthday and said she remembered him. He was friendly enough, but kind of aloof and somewhat inattentive; had to ask for lemon for my husband’s water 4 times before he brought it to the table. He didn’t drop the ball the whole time, brought more bread when we asked, switched out a glass of wine that didn’t suit one of our friends, and had our entrees out pretty quickly (my husband had to leave early for a meeting, and we asked if he could expedite at least the one meal). When it came time for the birthday girl’s dessert, however, he really blew it. Brought out the slice of cheesecake she requested, with a candle, and dropped it off in front of her and walked away. She was not happy about that and was less happy when she saw she was charged for it. Never paid for a birthday dessert prior to this time, especially when the bill, with a $81 automatic gratuity added in, came to close to $600, including a few cocktails! There is a good chance we will be looking for a new restaurant to celebrate our birthdays at!
