My friend got the Pesto Penne. Direct quote: “sh*t slaps”.
These meals are solely responsible for me winning the triathlon national championship in Milwaukee this weekend.
Mario – forever in our hearts. Much love from Boulder, Colorado.
As for the pizza, I’m really not a picky eater and I love cheese. In fact, I almost ordered ours with extra cheese. However, I’m glad I didn’t as there was so much cheese on this pizza it was really too much (I know there really isn’t ever too much cheese… but there was) Other that, the sauce and pizza didn’t have much flavor. We will certainly give it another shot as this was our first time here. I usually prefer the thin crust, but we ordered pan style for a change of pace, so I’ll probably try the thin crust next time and will change review if it warrants.
For those looking to sit down, there is also inside seating if you would like to eat there.
That changed drastically this past weekend. Our group has held an event in their parking lot during Mukwonago’s Midnight Magic event for approximately the last 10 years, and that was no different this past year.
Shortly after sunset we walked in (Approximately 5pm) – advised them we had 10 people for dinner. We did have to wait approx 20-30 minutes for a group to leave then about another 10 minutes to be seated
We eventually got seated handed menus and then the server left without offering drinks or appetizers. About 20 minutes later I elected to go to the front counter advise the employee that we had been there and were ready to order. The orders were taken without any issues – drinks arrived in a timely manner and we figured due to the size of our group it would be a bit for the food in order for everyone to get served at the same time.
Approximately 45 minutes later 1/2 of the table received their pasta dishes but the remaining people who ordered pizzas continued to wait and wait and wait.
As the people were nearly done with their meals I went to the front and asked what was happening the employee said they had an incident with the pizza maker. I asked how much longer as I still had to work in the early morning hours. He replied 5 minutes.
As time ticked by one of our members noticed a fair amount of food leaving via the takeout window and the front door. We weren’t approached by anyone to explain what happened, refills on drinks, or if we wanted something to tied us over. It was about 10 minutes later some free appetizers arrived but the time was ticking on the food we actually ordered.
I don’t remember what time it was but there was nearly 10 minutes left in the first quarter of the BIG10 Championship Game that I remember started at 7:20pm when our pizza arrived.
I can’t speak for the other patrons but our pizza wasn’t very good. It had a nice crust, the toppings were correct, but the sauce didn’t appear to have any seasoning. After only eating a few pieces I elected just to go up and get the bill and a to-go box. Not sure why I bothered as we didn’t eat another piece.
Over the years the food at Mario’s has been good and I have tipped at least 20% for our orders but this time I hate to say this but it was the worst $28.00 meal and $3 tip I have ever had.
