Prime location for good seafood with beautiful views of the Saint Clair River and the freighters going by! We absolutely loved looking around to take in the nautical ambiance with so many unique fish decor. I wouldn’t have guessed our server was new if she hadn’t told us! She super kind and friendly and gave great recommendations from the menu! The H2O cocktail is delicious, with a nice fruity flavor! The scallops were absolutely delicious and the calamari was nice and crispy! The bing cherry puff pastry dessert was a perfect ending to a great meal!

Marine City is a nice place for a little getaway on Sunday afternoon… After sunbathing at the beach or spending time at the waterfront park while watching freighters you will probably get hungry. The perfect solution for it will be a meal at the Marine City Fish Company. What you have to be aware of is that it will be best to make a reservation a couple days ahead. We tried to call the day of visit, a few hours before, and the place was already fully booked. We took a chance and went there anyway. After being advised on 55 minute wait (and were ready to leave,) we came up with the idea of sitting at the bar, were two empty seats. While walking to the bar, we noticed that there are very many available tables everywhere and the restaurant is half empty. Not sure what was causing this, maybe lack of employees? The food was good except mashed potatoes that were nicely served but had watery texture and powdery taste. If you really like mashed potatoes get a different side. At the restaurant like this I would appreciate real mashed potatoes rather than instant ones. Overall, we enjoyed the day. The restaurant is nice, big, the bartender was excellent, and we were surrounded by life music. Will go back if mashed potatoes improve…:-)

Bread had little taste to it. Under staffed wait staff took nearly an hour to bring our main course. Too loud to hear well and yet they had a piano playing too. Cod and shrimp batter fell off .

I tried the coconut chicken, as I love coconut shrimp. The hot veggies were not drained and neither was the fruit salsa. My plate was wet all over. This made my coco chicken coating soggy on the bottom. My fresh chips got soggy, as well. I’ve eaten at the MCFCO MANY times through the years, and I’ve never been disappointed until now. There wasn’t much salsa and my coleslaw was a little scoop in the bowl, not the full bowl we’re used to. And what is this about cash discounts? Banking is a cost of doing business. So, now the FishCo is like a gas station because I saved 70 cents by paying cash. Another thing, your toilet paper holder in the men’s handicap stall has been sitting on the floor instead of being mounted on the wall. You had problems in the old bathroom with bad and loose toilet seats.

The food was very bland and made my stomach churn. Like the fish from what I heard at my table was pretty cold and my sandwich was really just two sticks of gristle and fat. The fries were thin and flavorless. But I did really like the appetizers. The workers are very nice even under pressure they keep their cool. In my personal opinion I won’t be coming back after a $60+ meal even when we had to return a dish from it being cold and smelling off. Our appetizer didn’t say how many pieces we’d be getting so we paid $10 for one and a half potato skins with a little bit of bacon on top. In short the food was cold took about 2 hours to arrive and the seats were very VERY uncomfortable to sit on.

Whenever my wife and I return to Michigan, we make a trek up to Marine City for dinner at the Marine City Fish Market. Aschewing the drive up US 95, we prefer the scenic route along the St. Claire River, passing wetlands along one side of the road and lighthouses and the river on the other. It’s a cute little town, always worthy of a walk along its main street before or after a meal.
