Well, tonight I ordered a whole Enzo pie to go. I got home and I was very disappointed. It was just way overcooked. The dough was cracking from the fold and there was no droop whatsoever. It literally was like cardboard. The taste was fine but the dough and crust was just way too crispy. The crust was like biting into a cracker. I’m hoping this was just an off day.
The prices are more reasonable than Shackamaxon, but pricier than Vince’s. As someone who grew up in Brooklyn and has eaten several times their body weight in pizza, here’s my honest take on the flavor.
The slice has good weight and a proper New York-style size. Carriage is solid, with enough structure to hold up without flopping over, it doesn’t shatter like a cracker. There’s a nice crunch and it feels almost complete.
That said, the standard slice was noticeably too salty, and it wasn’t just from the Parmesan sprinkled on top. The cheese was slightly burnt and lacked much chew or that stretch you’d expect from mozz right out of the oven. There’s more work needed to improve on flavor. I’d return in a few months to see how things improved, and maybe sooner if I was in a pinch for pizza, but otherwise I’m ordering from the veterans in the area for now.
In response to owner: “Maybe it’s a little salty from all of the garlic salt and oregano you poured on it. If you’d like I’m happy to give you a free slice. Just come by and mention this. Thanks”
Garlic powder and oregano aren’t salty, nor did I “pour” it. The saltiness was coming from the slice itself. I would suggest you listen to your customers and not pay them off with food if you want to run a successful business. I was offering straightforward feedback, not looking for a free slice, but I appreciate the response.
We first called around 4:40 pm to place an order and were told the phone was glitching, so we were asked to order online instead. My boyfriend asked if they accepted cash, and they said yes, but noted they wouldn’t have change. We placed our order through Toast shortly after, since they wouldn’t over the phone (only way you can for cash), with an estimated pickup time of 5:20 pm. When my boyfriend arrived, he ended up waiting an additional 40 minutes before the order was ready. The staff did apologize for the delay, and everyone we interacted with was kind and polite and it was clear they were overwhelmed. A bit crazy though in terms of wait time when you order ahead.
We ordered a pepperoni slice and the mushroom truffle pizza. The pepperoni was decent. Unfortunately, the mushroom truffle pizza was underwhelming. It appeared to be bella mushrooms with some basil, ricotta, and there was no truffle shavings, cream or any kind of flavor or what appeared to be truffle anywhere—surprising given how bold truffle typically is “if” there was any on it. The dough itself was also lacking flavor and very bland, which made the overall pizza fall flat and was disappointing for a $24 pie.
We understand opening a new restaurant comes with growing pains, but given the price point of the pizzas, we were hoping the service timing and flavor profile would better match the cost. That said, we’re willing to give it another try and would be happy to update this review if our minds change.
