My best friend and I have been searching for a spot that feels like “ours”, so we tried Marietta Proper to celebrate her birthday. EVERYTHING from the drinks, to the vibe, and the food was 10/10. We tried a few drinks: apple of my eye, pear up, and the blackberry lemon drop. We went during happy hour and got the charcuterie board, short rib, Mac and cheese, roasted salmon, and mashed potatoes. For dessert, we chose the guava cheesecake.

Marissa was our server and was EXTREMELY sweet! She gave excellent menu recommendations that did not disappoint! We can’t wait to come back and try the Speakeasy downstairs!!

Cute speakeasy, borderline rude hostess. Bartender upstairs and in speakeasy were great, hostess not so much.

Small speakeasy with heavy pours. Drinks were solid. Had a gimlet and champagne both were excellent.

Went with a group of friends during the holidays and it was a cute spot for a nightcap.

We came here for jukebox trivia with DJ Justin Simmonds AKA Sir Games a lot! we had the best time ever and the food was fresh and delicious! We can’t wait to come back. Everyone needs to come enjoy this either trivia or jukebox bingo. A bonus is that it’s a speakeasy where you need a password just to go downstairs.

Unfortunately, we’ve dined here twice and both experiences missed the mark. The last experience was exceptionally bad. One of our appetizers didn’t come out (not a huge deal), waited over an hour for our entrees to come out to find that all the fried chicken sandwiches were burnt to a crisp – take a look for yourself. Our server and seemingly the entire wait staff disappeared into the back after putting down our plates. We had to get up to go find them to let them know our food was inedible. They acknowledged they knew it shouldn’t have gone out. While I appreciate they ultimately did the right thing by removing the entrees from our bill, it was only after some back & forth. In my opinion, there should have been no question to remove the entrees from the check since they were completely inedible. Our party left frustrated and still hungry after over two hours. I wanted to like this place and even gave it two chances, but both the kitchen and service misses the mark.

Marietta PROPER has officially become my number one restaurant in the U.S. Everything about this place is simply exceptional—from how effortlessly you can make a reservation to the very last moment you spend there.

The interior design is stylish and inviting, the service is top-tier, and even the appearance and demeanor of the staff deserve a standing ovation. If I could give this place six stars on Google, I absolutely would. Five just doesn’t feel like enough to express how impressed and happy I was with the experience.

Our server, Justin, was nothing short of amazing. There were three of us dining that evening, and I arrived a bit late. When I walked in, Justin greeted me by name. He had remembered all of our names and used them throughout the dinner—it was such a small gesture, but it truly left a lasting impression. I don’t think I’ve ever experienced this kind of attentiveness and genuine care in any other restaurant in the U.S.

Now, let’s talk about the food. The presentation was a show in itself—thoughtful, creative, and clearly made with love and passion. You can feel the heart of the chef and the vision of the owner behind every detail. And the taste? Absolutely phenomenal. Each of us ordered different dishes and drinks, and we shared everything. Every single bite was perfect.

One highlight we all talked about was the barley dish—yes, barley! I’ve never seen barley served at a restaurant in the U.S., let alone in such an elegant and delicious way. It truly blew our minds.

Another thing that really impressed me was the variety of non-alcoholic drink options. There were three types of non-alcoholic wine and several non-alcoholic cocktails. That’s honestly top-tier—because not all restaurants and bars offer such thoughtful choices. This is incredibly important for people who don’t drink alcohol but still want to enjoy the atmosphere of a beautiful bar with elevated drink presentations.

There was only one small thing that caught my attention—and I hope the owners might take note: a few of the plates had visible chips on them. The dinnerware is absolutely gorgeous, but perhaps not ideal for high-volume bar service, as it may wear down quickly. That said, I’m not taking off even a fraction of a star for this, because it’s a completely fixable detail and didn’t affect our overall experience in any way. Everything else was genuinely perfect.

By the end of the dinner, we were so full we could barely breathe—but we still couldn’t resist trying dessert, and of course, it was as flawless as the rest of the meal.

Marietta PROPER is not just a place to eat—it’s a place to experience. A place that shows what true hospitality, creativity, and culinary mastery look like. I will be recommending it to everyone I know, and if you’re reading this, please do yourself a favor and go. I have no doubt it will become your favorite, too.

The peach bourbon bread pudding was absolutely terrific. Marisa was great and the prep cook Victor did an amazing job of preparing the dish and letting me vent about How Good the food is!

We had the pleasure of working with Hailey to plan a surprise bridal brunch and wow, I can’t say enough about how wonderful it was! Hailey was amazing to work with! She was so helpful and went out of her way to make our event special. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was great. We were in the Speakeasy and it had such a fun vibe. Our server Justin was so sweet and on top of everything. Everyone had the best time and I am so thankful to Hailey, Justin, and the rest of the staff at Marietta Proper for making this event so special.

I had to share my fantastic experience at The Marietta Proper!

The brunch shrimp and grits was bold in flavor—a true standout! And I must mention, they have the BEST espresso martini I’ve ever had (I happily had two!). The food and cocktails were truly incredible, but the real highlight was the impeccable service we received, which was the main point of our amazing visit.

Ms. Isabelle took such very good care of us. She was not only stunning but provided service that was attentive, warm, and professional…..she made our evening truly special. And has inspired us to return.

My family and I were thoroughly impressed and will absolutely be returning soon!
