4.7 stars seem kinda low. First time visitor. I walked in while Marie was still cooking and as soon as the door opened and I smelled the spices I knew I was home. I had the curry chicken. Delicious . This restaurant is obviously a staple in the community as Marie greeted and knew everyone who entered. Her pleasant personality was probably even better than the food, but only slightly. It was a pleasure finding this gem and I’ll definitely be back. Next time I’ll try to show the actual food but no promises, you’ll have to stop by and see for yourself.

I stopped by this restaurant for the first time today and ordered the oxtails, stewed chicken, and curry chicken large meals. The food was absolutely delicious—full of flavor, and the meat was incredibly tender, melt-in-your-mouth tender. The meals I ordered were to feed 3 adults and 2 children. There is more than enough left for 2nds for everyone. The service was just as impressive—very friendly and kind. I’ll definitely be coming back! Thank you Marie’s!

The cook was so nice, I asked, “Do you have any vegetarian dishes?” She replied, “No” but she put a few things together for me because it was close to closing time. The food was very delicious! I didn’t expect the carrots and green beans to be soft and flavorful, especially the mashed potatoes.

My husband and I purchased 1 akee & saltfish with food, just incase we didn’t like it. As we tasted it, we returned back to Marie’s Jamaican Restaurant and purchased a second one! Honestly… it was OUTSTANDING! One of the best we’ve ever had. 1 million stars people.

The Jamaican food served here is absolutely authentic and delicious! This restaurant was previously Derry’s Jamaican Cuisine located on E. 2nd St. in Plainfield. Make no mistake though, it’s the same owner/chef with the same great tasting West Indian cuisine. Marie’s plated food presentation is always a feast for the eyes, the portions are plentiful and the prices are reasonable. The restaurant dining area is clean, bright and tastefully decorated and service is friendly.

We went on for the Jerked Chicken. It’s great if you like stewed chicken with jerk sauce thrown on top. Then that’s the place for you to go. For us we like our Jerked Chicken grilled with the seasoning grilled into the chicken after marinated 2, 3, 4 days, whatever. That is stewed Chicken fighting (red sauce) the jerk sauce because I bit into a piece of the chicken and it didn’t have any jerk flavor on it. It was stewed flavor only, no heat at all falling off the bone chicken. I would imagine that’s why the jerk sauce is so peppery to overtake the stewed Chicken and the burned parts. Even the ginger beer couldn’t get rid of the aftertaste of the burned chicken. I was a disappointed especially since this restaurant rated at a 4.8. I anticipated better.
