The charcuterie was a nice selection, of what… I only have educated guesses. Brie, blue, perhaps a manchego…with three meat selections. Usually, the selections are on the menu or a brief explanation when the food is brought out. I have to say when everything came out, there was not a word said. Nothing at all, just plopped the food down and walked off as if afraid to speak. It felt like a very common theme throughout the restaurant. No one spoke and if they did it was timid and quiet.
Escargot was the biggest disappointment. The mushrooms completely dominated the flavor, it was earthy on top of earthy. The texture was so flat and near mush, we each took two bites and were done. It didn’t taste ‘bad’, but the mushroom overwhelmed it completely.
The crab soup was really nice, a full flavor building in the bowl with a serious crab punch. It was a delicate, unexpected change from the usual crab bisque. Definitely the winner of the meal.
The setting and the soup were the standouts, making the only special notes of the experience. The rest of everything was…adequate. Nothing terrible, but nothing to draw me back again.
The salad we got couldn’t really be classified as “green” but rather a yellow Caesar salad.
The glasses of wine were not at all a full pour. And it took a day and a half to bring each item. The salad came and then five minutes later, the requested utensils.
There are so many good restaurants nearby. You can skip this one with your precious time
I’ve been twice so far on visits to Baltimore. Most recently, I got the Croque Madame sandwich, consisting of ham, cheese, an egg overeasy, and bread, drizzled with a creamy white sauce and includes a side of delicious thin cut French Fries. It’s well presented on the dish, it satiates the appetite, and it doesn’t break your wallet. Very delicious and wholly recommended by me!
I also got a Cappuccino which, common enough, was delicious and comes in a large cup. The atmosphere, too, is pleasant and feels relaxing to just sip and unwind.
They had, too, a live jazz band playing upstairs over the balcony while I dined by the front window below. It was very enjoyable and really elevated the experience.
I haven’t tried much else yet of the menu, but am looking forward to in the future. I also showed up on a Friday evening without a reservation and didn’t encounter any seating problems. Parking outside is paid street parking until, I believe, 6pm (double check and read meters). I didn’t encounter any parking issues either, and was able to find a spot pretty quickly.
Overall, I love this place and definitely recommend it!!
Pricing was $14 for the Croque Madame + Fries, and $5 for a Cappuccino.
5/5 stars from me!
