AVOID! On Friday, November 28 my sister and I were visiting Taos and decided to try to find a place for dinner. We made the BIG MISTAKE of picking this place. When we arrived at around 4:00 pm it wasn’t busy at all. There are basically 2 seating areas, one in the area next to the kitchen that has no windows, and another one in the back with plenty of light and windows. We decided to sit in the back, to have some sort of view of the outside. Since we walked through the first seating area toward the second in the back, I was able to see that people were sitting at only 2 tables in the first seating area, and only 1 table was occupied in the second seating area at the back. The first thing I noticed was how expensive everything was for the type of place we were in, but we decided to stay because we were tired and hungry, and we wanted to go to a couple of places before it got totally dark. The waitress, a young girl with long hair with a few strands lightly dyed purple-blueish came to take our order only about 2 minutes after the hostess (a different woman) had sat us and the same hostess brought us our drinks, my sister ordered a lemonade, I only had water. We didn’t know what we wanted yet so she said she would be back in a couple of minutes. It took her about 20 minutes to come back to our table. I ordered something with chicharron, my sister ordered the carne asada quesadilla. About 5 minutes later the same waitress came back to tell me they were out of chicharron and if I wanted to order something else, I ordered the combination plate (taco, enchilada, chile relleno with a side of beans and calabacitas, pictured). It took them about 30 minutes -the place was never busy- for them to bring my plate, and my sister didn’t get hers despite her having placed her order before me (remember, they were out of chicharron). I started eating, finished eating, and my sister still had not gotten her quesadilla, which arrived about 30 minutes after my plate. At that point, we had been in this restaurant for well over 1 hour. I told the waitress that it was not acceptable to have to wait so long for the food especially if the place was not busy at all. She got angry and very defensive, telling me that I should bring that up with the kitchen staff, that she was just a server and had nothing to do with how long it took them to fix the dishes. I told her that still, she worked there, she replied it had nothing to do with her, that it was all about the kitchen and left. She came back about 15 minutes later and threw the bill on the table. At no point did she even think of saying “oh, we are so sorry, the drinks are on the house” (even though it was just a glass of lemonade) or anything like that. She had a horrible, nasty, unprofessional attitude all along. Also, she never came back to the table to offer refills in our drinks. I saw that the table that had been served and left while we were waiting for our food had paid at the table, but I wasn’t going to wait for this waitress to take another 30 minutes to collect payment and bring back the receipts. We walked up to the cash register, she was standing there on her phone, I handed her my card, she processed the payment and still had the nerve to flip the screen to see if I was going to leave a tip. I left none. We were in this nasty place for over 2 hours for some very mediocre food for which we paid almost $40 and one of the worst attitudes and service I have ever experienced in New Mexico. AVOID THIS PLACE!

Go for classic Mexican dishes, well prepared at food prices. I had a smothered chicken burrito, Christmas style, the last time I was there. The stewed dark meat was ample and delicious. Both the Smoky red and more tangy green salsa were delicious. They melt some cheese on top as well. I have a friend who likes LOTS of cheese, so I am going to suggest they try it and ask for that accommodation.
For sides, you choose two out of the three among rice, beans and calibacitas. I got beans and calibacitas and had some rice IN the burrito. How perfect is that?
On prior visits, I’ve had the rellenos, tamales, and blue corn enchiladas. You can’t go wrong here.
Before they moved from their old location further south on Paseo Sur, I was told they were moving to “the old IHop location.” Actually, it is the back of that building, with yet another canibis shop in the front. The easiest way to find it is to follow the signs for Joint. The interior is kind of chopped up, with a few booths near the entrance and more in a sort of back room. Service is friendly and efficient without being fawning. There is ample parking.

Midafternoon on a Saturday doesn’t exactly help create a great atmosphere BUT we went for the food. Actually the atmosphere was fine and we enjoyed the setting very much. The food ranged from good to great.
The chips and salsa came with a warning that the red was spicy. It was but also tasty. The green was very tasty with a hint of spicy.
Deb’s tacos were delicious as were the calabacitas that came with them. I had fish and chips in a substantial amount. The cod was breaded in flour and panko mixture that was very crispy and crunchy. I thought the fish was a little bland but the red salsa added to the tartar sauce took care of that. The chips were freshly fried and quite long.
Plenty of food, freshly prepared and good to eat. Looking forward to trying breakfast.

Working late in Questa, barely made it in before close and Cisco was more than happy to seat me. Food was excellent, had chille relleno enchiladas w/carnitas. Washed it down with a delicious horchata (my photos are terrible, food was better looking!)

We walked in shortly before closing and asked if it was okay to sit and eat. The hostess Nancy, without hesitation made us feel comfortable and welcomed us telling us to sit down and enjoy our meal. Great food and service!

We stopped here for lunch. Cisco was an excellent waiter, super nice! The horchata here is house made and I’d drink an entire gallon if I could. I would come back just for that. The food is delicious and you can tell it is made fresh, with care. Unfortunately, I did not have enough room for dessert – guess I’ll have to come back to try that!

I had the huevos rancheros with chorizo and red chili. It was astounding. Probably the best chorizo I’ve had. Excellent New Mexican style red sauce all on blue corn tortillas.
