Maria’s is my favorite Mexican restaurant. I don’t usually frequent the Ankeny location, but we were here, so why not. The food was super bland, and the tacos didn’t have much filling in them. I ordered a ground beef burrito where I found ham, and even a raw French fry. At least that is what’s what I think it was. The queso was so thin, it ran right off the chips! We won’t be back to this location. What a disappointment.

I actually love the burritos here. I’ve never had an issue with them and they always tasted great (granted I always got the Arizona or California). I can understand due to inflation they needed to raise their prices, but they should probably update their board. I was quite confused why my order was $2 more than what it was listed.
The friendly gentleman who answered my question basically said they hadn’t updated their prices yet, but I couldn’t quite understand the explanation.
Again, I completely understand the price increase, but I was surprised when I noticed this difference. If you see the same prices listed after this post, you might want to check and make sure your receipt matches the listed price so you don’t get a surprise as well.

My favorite spot in Ankeny thus far, a great combination of excellent customer service, superb food, and great pricing. Drive-thru was available, but I craved a breakfast burrito, and this place completely nailed! Maria is amazing, a wonderful person. Geraldo makes awesome buritos, especially the chorizo ones! Noah made me the most delicious bacon and egg burrito with rice and beans inside, and it was spectacular. Highlight is their 12-option salsa bar, and they mark it so well that I sampled 10 of them! Try the ones on the right side, and when they label it with a high number, theyre not joshing! Divey and I like it!!!

This was my 3rd time coming here so I’m not sure if this was a bad night or a freak incident but unfortunately I want to put this out there because this place made my boyfriend and I sick. We went there last night to get 2 Oreo tres leches & 2 horchatas. We went through the drive thru, got back home and once we opened the bag with the tres leches in it I could smell something off. Turns out the milk used in the batch of tres leches I got was SPOILED, my boyfriend’s was fine. Luckily they replaced mine, but we both had taken a bite from it, now we’re both sick the next morning. The guy bagging them HAD to have smelled it because it was STRONG. They need to have dates on them or something to prevent this from happening because serving expired food especially something that can make you sick is unacceptable. Also the horchata we got was basically water. We’ll have to find a new spot for our late night dessert kick.

Maria’s is typically pretty good. I will say this specific time we had noticeably less meat than other times. One taco actually looked to have more cilantro lol. But that’s isn’t the norm so I’m not mad. I blame the snow day. Their selections of salsa aren’t my favorite. But others may like them! Their price point is also a bit higher than other places but not bad.

I had a terrible experience at this Mexican restaurant. I waited 30 minutes to get my food and still never got it when there was only one person ahead of me. The service was incredibly slow, and the wait time was unacceptable given the lack of customers. I won’t be returning. I used to really like this place but not anymore.
