Maria’s Café has been on a list of mine for a very long time to visit. I was recently in San Antonio and a friend suggested we go there for breakfast. I realize when we got there, I’ve been wanting to visit this restaurant for a long time. I ordered a single grande breakfast taco. It was so good, it’s one of those meals I can’t stop thinking about. Next time in San Antonio I’ll be going there again. It’s a very small restaurant with a very little parking, but we found street parking nearby and only had to wait a few minutes on a Saturday to get some breakfast. [Entrance is through the back door under a carport, rather than the street side entrance.] I think there are only seven or eight tables with menus posted on the wall and they also gave us individual menus to review. My companion had the Chilaquiles plate, which he really enjoyed. I ordered the Joselito taco which consisted of: Chilaquiles, bacon, Carne Guisada, and cheese. I can’t even begin to describe how delicious that taco was. When I ordered the waitress told me I could get it as a “grande”. I ordered the larger taco that filled the plate and I consumed every single bit of it! Oh my, even thinking of it now makes my mouth water! [When I’m visiting San Antonio, I often go to Rolando’s tacos on Hilderbrand. Although it’s a much larger restaurant, the taco here was equally as delicious.] I definitely want to return SOON!

This place is a hidden gem. It was listed in the NY Times in 2022 in an article called “25 Restaurant Dishes we couldn’t stop thinking about this year”. I also saw them on Utube.Their food is amazing. I highly recommend it. They only have 6 tables so yes it is small, but well worth it.

By far thee best tex mex food in all of San Antonio. Friendly clean dinning room with a throw back in time atmosphere. I love to visit 1st thing off the flight from Chicago.

Very good homestyle cooking. Homemade tortillas and food is cooked basically as you request although they do have a menu. This is a very popular “hole in the wall” restaurant, one of the best!! The disadvantage is that it is small and crowded requiring a long, worth the while wait. There is an attendant assisting with parking outside. He is very courteous and will let you know that you are in for a wait. It is well worth it. Brisket is great not to mention all the rest of the food. I was not disappointed. I definitely recommend this place!!

Absolutely loved Maria’s, it was my first time and the food was better than words can explain. Reminded me of the original cafes from when I was a child. you feel like part of the family when you go in.

Maria’s was the 5th spot we tried on our search for best breakfast tacos in SA. The bacon, egg, potato and cheese was really good especially with that hot sauce and its spicy kick. The bean and cheese, while also good wasn’t as flavorful as beans I’ve had elsewhere. The carne guisada and cheese was the best taco for sure. It’s a bit of nitpicking, but the meat wasn’t quite as tender as compared to other spots and the tortillas overall were on the chewy side. That being said, I really enjoyed this spot and would definitely return for more breakfast tacos as well as to try all the other options on their menu. 4.2 out of 5

We came all the way from Leon Valley to try Maria’s Cafe, and it was absolutely worth the drive! This little hole-in-the-wall spot has such a homey, welcoming atmosphere that makes you feel comfortable the moment you walk in. It was our first time eating here, and we were so impressed.
They made our food exactly the way we wanted it, paying attention to every detail and making sure everything was just right. You can really tell they care about their customers and take pride in what they serve.
We’ll definitely be coming back for more. If you’re looking for a cozy place with great food and friendly service, Maria’s Cafe is a must-try!

Awesome service and so friendly, explained the whole menu.
The food was delicious and had so much flavor. True Tex-Mex cooking, home-made tortillas, we are posting photos of the tacos.
Loved the country sausage and egg. The spicy green salsa was perfect on the tacos.
We highly recommend eating here. Lack of parking was the only issue. Owner say park behind the cars(employees) along the fence.
