We were driving south and wanted to get some dinner. We looked at the many options but while driving we saw this lively place and decided to stop. The outside was very inviting with two heaters roaring out and the window seating and lights seen from the inside. We walked in and the place was busy yet we were greeted and taken to our seats. It took a little bit to get our order but it was TOTALLY worth it. We are from SoCal and know authentic Mexican food and this place did not disappoint. I ordered the steak fajita and my husband ordered a chimichanga. Oh maaaaan these portions are giant. My food came out on a sizzling pan with a fire warmer under it. It was so good. My husband loved his shredded beef chimichanga. He said the meat tasted so good and it was pretty cheesy and not greasy. They don’t serve any alcoholic drinks but they have all kinds of drinks crafter but alcohol free. Super cute.
I got a chance to speak the lady in the front she was the grandmother and two of her grand daughters were hugging on her and helping out. Everyone we interacted with was superb.

Whenever I’m in Orem on a Saturday between 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM, I make it a point to stop by Maria Bonita Mexican Restaurant. The food here is consistently delicious and always a treat.
My usual favorites are:
Molcajete
Any Enchilada Plate
Any Shrimp/Seafood Plate
Each dish is flavorful, fresh, and reliably well‑prepared. I also highly recommend the non‑alcoholic Mango Colada refreshing, creamy, and definitely worth trying. I’ll include a photo of it in this review.
What to Expect
⏳ Busy Saturdays (11 AM–3 PM):
Be prepared for a 15–30-minute wait for a table. The restaurant is very popular, and seating is limited.
Reservations:
You can call ahead, but tables are only held for a short time. Make sure you’re planning to arrive soon after reserving.
Parking:
Parking is limited due to the restaurant’s smaller size, so plan accordingly.
Restrooms:
There is one restroom for men and one for women, each a private single‑stall setup with one toilet and sink.
Final Thoughts
Despite the wait, the food and service make visiting absolutely worth it. If you enjoy flavorful, well‑made Mexican cuisine, this is a spot you should experience at least once. And if it’s not your preference, that’s okay but it’s a favorite for many.

Best Mexican food around! It is seriously so delicious. Our favorites are the green enchiladas (chicken and cheese are both delicious), and the lobster tacos. The queso and guacamole are also very good. The restaurant is small, but feels very authentic and family owned. The servers are always super friendly and nice to us.
The specialty drinks (and even sodas) are served in these awesome huge glasses! We love to splurge on a non-alcoholic drink here because they are divine!
We have come here for birthdays, anniversaries, and just a night out. We have brought kids, though it is a bit tight if you need a car seat or high chair.

If you’re an introvert, this is the place for you to eat! We didn’t get good service from the employees, but it’s okay if you don’t like talking to people! The food is great and they serve HUGE portions for a decent price!

I have been wanting to try this place for a while and the food did not disappoint. The portions are massive and everything tasted great. Make sure that you get the piña colada! It was one of the best ones that I have had, plus it was served in a pineapple. Out of all the food that we ordered I would recommend get the chili verde. I loved the decorations because it felt like a real Mexican restaurant.

Authentic Mexican food with a large menu. The staff is kind and attentive. They let my cousin create her own combo with rolled tacos and a chili relleno. I had the tostado grande. Everything was delicious. The salsa was mild. It had a great flavor. Fun atmosphere.

Very popular restaurant and quite busy. Generous food portions. Not my favorite place, but spouse likes it a lot. Very loud atmosphere. Service staff is polite but not real personable or attentive. Chips and salsa were good. Go hungry! Enjoy.
