March – Houston – a MICHELIN Guide Restaurant
Reviews
Services: When apon arriving there and all the way until you finished dinning, you will have so many server servicing you. They literally watch you the whole time, which made it a little uncomfortable even if they are nice.
Food: As for food, beautifully artistically design for each plating, but the taste was such an disappointment. The snacks in the lounge was decent, but as for dinning it was not worth it. The first course was a shareable dip and sides. The dip tasted like the korean red pepper paste with olive oil. The second course was pretty good. The fish was fresh and the sauce was pretty sweet. The rest of the courses was either too salty, too bitter, or too sweet. The flavors clashes with each other. Being a Michilan Star restaurant you expect the chef to blend the food to a nice balanced.
Overall: for $500 a head the food was not worth it.
Loved the lounge treatment to start after arriving to get comfortable. They took the time to know we were there for an elopement celebration and celebrated us all night.
The menu was eastern med and the food was a nice tour of the historical Levant region. Out of the 11 courses (incl. amuse-bouche and tiny post dessert bites), only one was average – the rest were exquisite.
They even went above and beyond to bring in a special bottle of cognac based on an email conversation we had previously.
If you’re a foodie or enjoy fine dining, this is a must.
The main reason for my feedback is the quality of the food. For a Michelin starred restaurant my expectation is at least good balance and execution in every dish and that was not the case.
The salad for instance was too sour. The farro and lentil polenta was too salty. The caviar addition to the appetizer seemed unnecessary – it was lost with the rest of the flavors.
Desserts were truly great. We loved them. Wine and the main courses were also great.
The whole story around the republic of Venice seems forced.
All the goodies – petite fours , courtesy teas , nicely printed menus and matching paper bags seem like a copy of other fancy 3 star restaurants – they would be a nice touch if the food were great.
500 dollars per head is an outrageously high price for food and an experience that in our view doesn’t even merit a single Michelin star.
The sister restaurant Rosie Canonball gives a better experience and value.
I feel like experience is what gets the star. And MARCH was an experience… It started with a relaxing aperitif in the lounge area, which really set the stage for the meal. And once we got to the dining room the experience continued. Honestly there was so much more food here than other tasting menus I have had (it may be a Texas thing lol) but everything was great and I feel like we did get a tour of the Mediterranean with a strong nod to local tastes and ingredients. I am glad MARCH got a Michelin star because that star turned me on to this restaurant!
Lounge area was nice and chill while we waited to be seated, ordered drinks and were served lounge snacks to start off the night. Once we came into the main dining area, which was nice and ambient, we were served the main dinner courses. We didn’t courses overall so I won’t go over each one, but each dish was an experience of unique flavors and textures. Dishes that were given much thought, and no doubt countless trial and error to get perfected. We were given background and inspiration for each dish, which was nice. Overall, this was definitely a Michelin star experience, and is one of the best restaurants I’ve been to in Houston. Worth coming at least once. Thanks for the experience, March staff
The menu at March changes every 6 months, and their current season “La Serenissima” is based off the Republic of Venice. The cuisine of Venice was shaped by centuries of trade over the Adriatic Sea. As a major hub for the spice trade, Venice played a key role in introducing European kitchens to exotic spices that became essential in Venetian cooking, adding complexity and richness to many dishes. As reflection of its prominence in global trade, Venetian cuisine became known for its bold and intricate flavors!
Our Evening:
March was highly recommend through a friend. We easily made reservations for a Saturday early evening dining. This was for our 24th anniversary. And was the best gift we gave each other this year. Valet parking is right outside the door of the restaurant. They were busy. But took great care of us once our turn came. Inside we were greeted by a lovely hostess. Who gave us an intro welcome and how the evening would unfold. Then we took the stairs to the lounge. A elevator is also an option. We spent about 8-10mins in the lounge. For a small complimentary drink and second set of drinks we ordered. They suggested and made mocktails for myself. And a nice vodka cocktail for my wife. We arrived at March right at our reservation time. So did not spend along time in the lounge. I recommend
arriving early to relax and enjoy the space. Once in the dining room. We overly enjoyed the 6 course set menu including dessert. There’s no way we could have finished the 9 with wine pairing. We never felt rushed or over looked. Everything was attended to and explained with enthusiasm. For any reason or occasion, I recommend March. Period.
