Tried here for the first time on Thursday evening and it was absolutely delicious. They had a two-course deal for £26 and a steak offer for two with drinks for £40 which we thought is great value.

A special mention to our waiter Declan who was genuinely outstanding. He was running the whole floor on his own and still managed to be quick, attentive and professional, while staying friendly and warm throughout. Even when he was incredibly busy, we never felt left waiting. He really is a credit to this restaurant.

I had the steak frites which was so good and was a good generous portion. My husband had the burger which he also loved. We both cleaned our plates. So glad we came here, would 100% return in a heartbeat.

I was in the area for work and discovered this little gem – I went 3 evenings in a row!!! The food is this good! Absolutely Devine! The welcome is warm and sincere the service attentive and friendly even on One of the particularly busy evenings. The French onion soup was BLISS! deeply savoury, sweet caramelised onions a comforting hug in a bowl The cheesy place with a crisp garlic coating underneath was Devine! beef bourguignon was exceptional. beef iwas SO tender, slow-cooked to perfection. The sauce was rich deliciousness lots of pearl onions richness, omg the mash!! smooth buttery yumminess! the crème brûlée, it’s my favourite dessert and Marcel do the best, that crack from the firm caramelised sugar topping the silky, custard underneath. The only disappointment? One is not enough!

As a coffee lover, I loved their Americano & espresso, mild not too bitter.
I noticed many other diners were going for the steak and chips which I find baffling, you can have that anywhere how could you miss their Beef bourguignon!!!!
There was a warm & relaxed atmosphere nothing pretentious.
A truly wonderful find in Belfast.

We had lunch at Marcel on the recommendation of our daughter who had been twice before & it certainly didn’t disappoint. The food was excellent as was the service, with a lovely ambiance and all in all a really lovely restaurant. We had mussels to start with along with some olives and breads, then Steak Frites with a side of tender stem broccoli and the chocolate delice for dessert. They also do a really good offer for two people of steak frites with 2 drinks for £40 which is excellent value if you’re looking for a light lunch. Definitely give this place a try it won’t disappoint.

Having went to the East Belfast original, visited here with a friend for lunch. One of the best meals I’ve had in ages. Very minimalist but cozy. Had a delicious and light Baked Cheese Soufflé to start followed by Steak Frites with Café de Paris Butter. Honestly one of the best meals I’ve had in a while. I had a Creme Brulée with Shortbread to finish which was beautiful. Wine is expensive which is my only major point of feedback. Loved it and would go again.

We always adored Marcel, a delightful little bistro serving elegant, contemporary French cuisine in the east side of the city, and we were pretty downcast when it closed. What were we going to do without our French foodie fix?

Well, we needn’t have worried, as award winning chef-owner Niall Duffy, ably assisted front of house by Declan O’Hagan, have recreated that Marcel magic on the Lisburn Rd, and we were delighted to have been invited to try the new menu.

The venue is perfect; forest green walls, carefully selected artworks, old church seating, and a cosy, welcoming vibe, with an open kitchen creating some culinary theatre.

Many Marcel classics are still on the menu, along with some newer additions, and we couldn’t wait to enjoy some favourite dishes, old and new.

The cocktail list has something to please everyone, and we started with two apéritifs, a Negroni, and a Sidecar, to accompany our nibbles of Marinated Olives, and Marcel’s ‘must-order’ dish, the Gougeres: savoury choux buns oozing with gruyere sauce.

The starters were terrific; Roquefort Salad with chicory, pear, & walnuts, and a steaming bowl of Moules Mariniere in a gorgeous white wine cream sauce with sliced baguette & smoked butter.

Our mains were equally good. We had Pan Fried Seabass on a medley of seafood: clams, mussels, prawns, & squid in a gently spiced tomato sauce, topped by a rouille crouton.

And the Poulet Roti, a half roast chicken with salad, fries, & garlic butter, was beautifully cooked, and was accompanied by some green beans with garlic & crispy shallots, all washed down with a bottle of Languedoc “Les Volets” Pinot Noir.

Of course, the desserts at Marcel are not to be missed; a decadent Chocolate delice with hazelnuts & almond praline crowned with gold leaf, and the pastry on the Tarte Bourdaloue was beautifully short, topped with pear & almond, and a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

The evening finished with a couple of drams of slightly smoky, & peppery Talisker Storm Single Malt, just for the road.

How brilliant to see Marcel going from strength to strength at its new location, and with great Prix Fixe options, and Steak Frites deals, it’s the perfect spot to enjoy great value, authentic French cuisine.

Lovely meal. The cheese gougères were incredibly moreish and Seabass with clams & prawns delicious. The cheese plate was the only slight let-down. The variety of cheeses wasn’t what I expected from a French restaurant, especially considering the gorgeous gougères. Lovely Crème Brûlée though.

Three of us enjoyed a late lunch at Marcel yesterday. As always the food and service were excellent. Special mention for the creme brulee with shortbread and the delicious bread and butter that accompanied moules marinere. But to be honest it was all
