Marano’s Trattoria

Growing up in an Italian household it’s nearly impossible not to end up having a passion for food. My parents immigrated from Italy back in the 50’s and they settled in the North End when they first arrived in the US. My dad is from Pratola Serra, a small province in the Avelino region of Naples and my mom is from a small fishing town called Augusta in Sicily. I have had a life-long passion for cooking traditional home-style Italian dishes like your mother or nonna would make. We love meeting people and our goal is to make them happy through food & conversations. We hope all of you come along for the journey.

We order Marano’s all the time at my work and the customer service is always excellent! I always get their chicken parm sub, mozzarella sticks, or Sicilian pizza and it’s always delicious! I look forward trying something different when I order from here!

11/8 ordered pizza Xtra sauce 1/2 Xtra peperoni. $2.95 for extra sauce I’ve never been charged for Xtra sauce, Xtra peperoni $2.95, definitely wasn’t Xtra, went back in the person who made it said he hadn’t noticed the Xtra peperoni, & gave me back $2.95, the pizza was burnt, which made it completely un enjoyable, and more frustrating because of the cost. Don’t think I will be returning for a long while.
Very disappointed.

Probably one of the best local Italian restaurants in the area. I can’t go through all the dishes but this chicken parm dish was just stunning. The Chicken Marsala is probably my favorite but go here ASAP you won’t be disappointed.

I just want to start off by saying the very nice staff all around. I get pizza here every so often and I get the Hawaiian very good but sometimes I come in and eat the burgers. The burgers are fantastic and the onion rings forget about it. Wonderful life-changingly delicious So I’m originally from New York and I get shrimp and spaghetti but fried shrimp and spaghetti. So a while ago I said can I get an order of fried shrimp and spaghetti but a little spicy it was fantastic so I was like honey. Let’s order a pizza and shrimp and spaghetti and I won’t get it spicy. Well let me tell you the shrimp is so crispy and we brought it home. It was excellent. The spaghetti and the sauce was excellent my husband never had shrimp and spaghetti like that

I haven’t been here in a while and only a couple of times since it was Lupos, but it doesn’t compare. I got a large chicken parm sub today. I gave it three stars because the flavor was good probably because of the sauce, but the chicken is extremely thin, as you can see the picture, and the chicken was really tough to chew through.
Ps: and for a phone order, did you really need my first name my last initial and my telephone number?

Yesterday, September 20th, I ordered a side dish (to-go) of grilled chicken. When I got home and opened it, I was very disappointed. The Chicken was so charred and burnt. BLACK all around the edges.
Burnt or “Charred” meat is a well known carcinogenic. It’s called Heterocyclic Amines; Which has been linked to increased risk of these cancers: Solorectal Cancer, Stomach Cancer, and Pancreatic Cancer. It’s when a piece of meat is cooked way too long on high heat causing the meat to become black.
I brought it back the very next day to show them. When I opened up the container, I said to the cook (might be the owner) that the chicken is burnt, black and extremely dry. His reaction was deplorable, he yelled at me in front of other patrons and co-workers. He said; “Lady, that’s what “Grilled Chicken” is supposed to look like. Well, I come from a long line of cooks from decades passed…..I know the difference between grilled chicken and BURNT & DRY chicken. Grilled Chicken should have a light golden color, unlike the picture below~

So he angrily whipped off his gloves, roughly opened the register, and started taking out the money that the chicken cost. He slammed down money, while still saying out real loud that the chicken was cooked perfectly~! I could not believe the rage in his voice, and how unprofessionally he responded. A good chef would have offered to replace the chicken…His poor and unprofessional reactions are inexcusable in any environment, especially in Food Service.

Let me also add to my disappointing experience at Marano’s (located in West Peabody-previously known as “Lupo’s)….while I was waiting for the food, a young girl that was working behind the counter had gloves on…while waiting for the deep fryer food to cook, she was putting her gloved fingers in her ears as if to itch them, she was also playing with long front braided hair.
Ewwwwwww~! So I “discretely” told a co-worker that she may want to tell her to change her gloves after itching her ears & playing with her braid. Her response: “We change our gloves a lot.” Yuck, is that before or after she sticks her fingers in her ears and caresses her hair-?? That is so unsanitary~

Let me share with you what I learned many years ago when I worked in food service; If a customer likes a restaurant, they may tell a handful of people, but if someone has a bad experience at a food place, like I did, they’re going to tell a whole LOT of people…..

I’m visiting from Arizona, where I’m used to a strong food scene, and this spot absolutely holds its own. I don’t typically leave food reviews, but this place deserves the recognition. I’ve been coming here daily during my stay and trying something new each time. The food is consistently excellent and very reasonably priced.

The Italian sub is a standout, I’ve had it multiple times. The pizza and pastas are also top tier, made with fresh ingredients and great flavor. The da sangy, chicken parm, and meatballs are electric!! What truly sets this place apart is the atmosphere, it’s a family run business, with the father, mother, daughter, and son all actively involved. You can feel the care in everything they do.

This is a must visit if you’re in town, and it’s the kind of local business that’s worth supporting. Best food spot in Peabody, easy.

Yesterday 1-12-2025 I went into this pizzeria and ordered chicken wings and a slice of pizza. All though the chicken wings were fine I was a bit caught off guard when I looked into the bag. It had two pieces of French fries when I never asked for does.

All though with the pizza, when I went and got it I opened it and it was completely burned on the crust of pizza. I found this to be very disrespectful and unprofessional from the staff to put a burned crust of pizza and hand it to me when I spend my money on it.

When I tried explaining the situation to the owner/manager he seemed like he didn’t care and he proceeded to say — (all he can do is give me a new slice of pizza for me to reheat on my own). He didn’t apologize for the mistake he or his staff had made and seemed to not bother.

(Everything happened so fast I did have a chance to take pictures of this unpleasant moment with my food.) but all of this happened and I hope it doesn’t happen to anyone else.

Once again I found this to be very unprofessional. And this place has definitely unfortunately lost a customer.

Thank you.

We ordered catering from Marano’s for my daughter’s birthday yesterday, and it was a huge hit! We had the Greek salad, broccoli chicken pasta, and chicken fingers. The pasta was a crowd favorite—especially the chicken, which was perfectly tender and not dry at all, unlike what we’ve experienced from other places. Everything arrived on time and at the right temperature, which made the whole experience even better. We’ll definitely be ordering from Marano’s again for future events!
