Reviews
The focaccia with house made ricotta was phenomenal. Very fresh and beautifully done. The steamed mussels were tender with just the right amount of kick. We also had the 3g truffle tagliatelle. Fresh pasta and well cooked, though the truffle flavour was quite delicate.
The ribeye was okay, but arrived less hot and tender than expected, and surprisingly there were no steak knives. The broccoli was a great accompaniment.
Service was fine once seated, though the host could have been more accommodating. Overall, a lovely spot with great starters, pasta, and ambiance. Would happily return.
The ricotta and artichoke starter was genuinely good and nicely prepared. However, we were quite disappointed with the cacio e pepe we ordered as a main the crab (fishy) flavour was unexpectedly strong and a bit overwhelming for us. On a more positive note, my wife really enjoyed the kale pasta she ordered.
The restaurant itself was extremely busy and quite noisy, to the point where it was difficult to have a proper conversation at the table. That said, the staff were friendly, attentive and helpful throughout our visit, which we appreciated. Pricing was also on the high end side.
Overall, it wasn’t a bad experience, but considering the hype and reviews, it didn’t quite meet our expectations.
Menu was fantastic- was particularly excited to try the mussels and the pasta.
Pasta was delicious with the Ragu and the mussels had a nduja kick to the cream sauce but were superb. Didn’t take a picture but the Kombucha cocktail was so fresh, would recommend!
I think the waiting staff once we needed some additional assistance with dessert forgot to get my gf a glass of wine and left us waiting for a while but other than that – a great experience and would visit again.
My first visit to Manteca was absolutely fantastic! The restaurant itself is super cool and chic, with dark-toned lighting and minimalist design creating a great atmosphere.
The customer service was superb—interactive, informative, and genuinely attentive. Our server, Jack, was amazing; he ensured we were always looked after and really enhanced our meal.
We ordered a few things to share: the focaccia, ricotta and chili dip, crab pasta, beef ragu, kale pasta, peach sorbet, and beef fat fudge. The pasta is incredibly fresh, and the sauces were wonderfully rich yet light, not heavy at all! I’d recommend sharing 3-4 pasta dishes as the portions aren’t huge, which is perfect for trying more of the menu. Despite the restaurant being very busy, there wasn’t much of a wait for the food.
A special shoutout to the peach sorbet—it literally tasted like a burst of fresh peach! You can tell they prioritize high-quality ingredients and fresh produce across the board.
For all this food, the bill came to just £80 (no alcohol), which is great value for money.
Overall: 8.5/10. It was a truly excellent experience and definitely a step above most other popular pasta spots. Highly recommend!
Warm and cosy inside with friendly staff.
The house red was recommend to us as it was created to complement the dishes and it was a lovely light red.
They recommend to share dishes which I would agree for the starters and sides but the pastas are more on the smaller side so would recommend getting your own if you’re on the hungry side.
All the pastas are great but my table agreed the “lumache, kale sauce, chilli” (pictured) was a pleasant surprise and a standout as it was light and fresh and the easiest pasta to share between us all
We also ordered the “tagliatelle, wild mushroom & black truffle” (pictured) great flavour aswell if you like mushrooms. Not pictured we also got the special of the day which was a ragu which was okay but nothing special compared to the other pastas.
We shared the “house-made ricotta, chilli, fennel pollen” (pictured) and “wildfarmed focaccia, rosemary”(pictured) both were great but another suprise highlight was the “bitter leaf salad, gorgonzola dolce, pear, pecorino romano” (not pictured)the Gorgonzola was very mild and creamy and we all agreed was overall a great salad.
From the moment we walked in, the vibe was spot on. It’s got that effortlessly cool East London energy – warm lighting, buzzing atmosphere, open kitchen, amazing smells everywhere. You can tell it’s the kind of place where people come to eat really well and stay a while.
Now let’s talk about the food… honestly unreal. Every dish felt thoughtful and packed with flavour. The fresh, handmade pasta was next level (silky, rich, perfectly balanced), and you can really taste the quality of the ingredients. The small plates were perfect for sharing – which made it such a fun, social dinner. Lots of “you HAVE to try this” moments around the table.
And the highlight? The hare. Absolutely incredible. Cooked beautifully, so tender and full of deep, rich flavour – one of those dishes that makes you pause mid-bite because it’s that good. Proper comfort food but elevated.
Service was relaxed but attentive, the wine list was great, and the whole evening just felt special without being pretentious.
If you’re in East London and love bold Italian flavours with a modern twist, Manteca is a must. 10/10 night, 10/10 food, 10/10 company
