The food was really good here. Highly recommend getting the eggplant dish. Getting a reservation in advance is a no brainer her. Would not recommend getting any deserts here as they are overpriced. The staff was friendly and nice. Easy place to go for a special occasion.

Was zooming around Google Maps looking for a new place and found this amazing historic gem! Was greeted by the most adorable sweet host who found a seat for me even though it was busy and I didn’t have a reservation, and was quickly waited on by an equally friendly server. Felt like I was outside of Seattle people were so friendly, which was refreshing. I had Age Dashi Tofu, Yakitori (salted) and a Chirasho Bowl and everything was just perfect. Can’t wait to come back.

Maneki open in 1904 in the International District making it oldest sushi restaurant in Seattle and one of the oldest in the U.S. The space is small and cozy and offers rooms for small groups to sit in traditional style. Based on internet recommendations I ordered the Tako-Taki, fried octopus balls to start. Wow they were delicious! For the entrée I ordered the Black Cod Shoulder miso. Again Wow! The marinated and grilled fish was amazing. The service was great. You have to try is restaurant!

My local friends recommended we come here for some authentic Japanese food while we were visiting.
We texted ahead to reserve a table for 5 since it is a popular place. They don’t take phone calls or reservations online – very old school. Which I think makes it more desirable.
We ended up getting a special room with a “chabudai” style table! I was super excited because I’ve never experienced it before. What I did find pleasant was that although it was a lower table, there was an opening beneath the table that allowed your legs to hang rather than having to sit Indian style.

Tyson was an amazing server. Was attentive, accommodated our allergies and was thoughtful with us having a young child. He was so pleasant and polite!

We enjoyed the following:
Baked miso glazed eggplant – YUM and melts in your mouth.
Black Miso Cod Collar – this was pleasantly surprising and so delicious. Eat bite was tender and flavorful. Simple yet so appetizing.
Sushi rolls were both fresh and well prepared.
The nigiri was also great and fresh- not fishy.
We additionally ordered takoyaki – which I normally don’t love but this one was very tasty and I enjoyed the texture. Lastly karage chicken which came with a creamy slaw.
Overall it was such a pleasant experience and we look forward to coming back!

I tried Maneki for dinner. Service was exceptional, food was fantastic the main dining room is a little worn and tired. I’m sure if you had one of the tatami rooms and didn’t mind sitting on the floor, you would give the atmosphere a 5. I had the Sakura salad (delicious) otoro nigiri or super fatty tuna belly(amazing) and the black cod collars (good but lots of bones and messy)

Maneki was hands down one of the best dining experiences we’ve had in a long time. Jean was an incredible host—so friendly and knowledgeable. She took the time to sit with us and explain different sakes as we’ve been searching for one similar in flavor to the one we enjoyed during our visit to Beppu. Jean was also so much fun to talk with!

The food was a 10/10—authentic, flavorful, and instantly took us back to our time in Japan. We loved Maneki so much that we made another reservation before flying home.

We’re not locals to Seattle, but this spot will definitely be on our list every time we return. Thank you for such a wonderful experience!

Order their black cod. Do not order their chicken items:) it’ll be the most dry chicken you’ve ever had. Red snapper sushi is a dream. Just avoid chicken. Other stuff is good

I always visit this restaurant each time when I visit Seattle from Calgary! Black cod was my fav! Then the broiled oysters.

We also got the classic sashimi and shayu shayu (beef hot pot).

Highly recommend 🙂

Maneki is an absolute gem in the International District and a must-visit for anyone who appreciates authentic Japanese cuisine and a truly special atmosphere. Stepping inside feels like a warm hug from the past – it’s one of the oldest Japanese restaurants in the country, and you can feel that history.

We opted for a tatami room (highly recommend booking this in advance!), which made the experience even more memorable. Kicking off your shoes and enjoying a meal in that traditional setting is fantastic.

The FOOD! Oh my goodness, the food. We had an amazing spread! The sashimi platter was incredibly fresh and beautifully presented – a real highlight. The unagi don (eel rice bowl) was rich and flavorful, and the sukiyaki was so comforting and delicious. We also tried the takoyaki (perfectly crispy and savory) and the agedashi tofu, which was delicate and flavorful. Even the chicken wings and korokke were fantastic. Everything tasted like it was made with care and tradition.

Service was friendly and helpful, happy to offer recommendations. Prices are very reasonable for the quality and experience you get. This isn’t some trendy, overpriced spot; it’s the real deal.

Maneki isn’t just a meal; it’s an experience. It’s a piece of Seattle history that’s still serving up incredible food. Can’t recommend it enough! Go, but definitely make a reservation. You won’t regret it.
