Reservations were made online and where it asked for special occasions I noted that we would be celebrating her birthday. I was not sure what to expect from this, but figured since the restaurant asked for special occasions on the reservation that they would somehow find a way to acknowledge her on this evening, even if it was just to say that they noticed it on the reservation and wish her a happy birthday. At no point was there ever any acknowledgement, which was disappointing.
The restaurant really is beautiful. Very busy, but not crammed. I did appreciate that. The food, however, was subpar. My grandmother ordered the shrimp and grits, but was only able to take a few bites since it was so spicy. The description of the dish did say the shrimp were blackened, but this typically equates to some amount of Cajun seasoning with not much heat. While she’s no hot head, she does order her bloody marys spicy and does not typically shy away from spicy dishes.
I ordered the pasta di mare. It had a very nice presentation but severely lacked in seasoning. The whole plate was bland and I ended up eating about half while we conversed before deciding it just was not worth finishing.
I could have spoken up when the waitress came around to our table to check on us, but did not want to cast a negative spin on an otherwise great memory with my grandma, so that is on me. I would have expected the waitress to notice that both of our plates were only picked at, but she did not seem to correlate that with dissatisfaction.
10/10 for ambiance and the wonderful evening celebrating a great woman in my life.
3/10 for the meal that was incredibly disappointing for a Mancy’s restaurant.
The French onion soup was the best I’ve even had. It was not salty but instead a bit of sweet onion taste.
The mushrooms stuffed with crabmeat was another all time best. We got some deviled eggs with caviar and truffles.
We shared cauliflower gnocchi. Tuna, yum. Salads were excellent. Folks enjoyed the petite fillets and the pasta with shrimp. Dessert was excellent. The chocolate cake was good but not to-die-for. The cheese cake and the homemade ice cream were the bomb!
This place is highly recommended.
