Meh. The portions are really good but the food itself is kinda middling. the rice & peas is bland, the oxtail could be better, but the Mac n Cheese is pretty good. As for service, there was a line but the staff wasn’t rude or anything. Overall, not bad but not great either.

Let me tell you something, you have to get the oxtails with rice and peas and steamed cabbage. I’m not a huge fan of a lot of rice, so I asked the young lady behind the counter if I could substitute some of the rice for extra vegetables, and she was more than willing to accommodate me—which was great service right off the bat! The food itself was delicious. The oxtails were tender, fall-off-the-bone perfection, and the amount of rice I had was just right. But the steamed cabbage and veggies were fantastic, having that slight, satisfying crunch that made them truly stand out. I truly enjoyed the food from here, and the young lady behind the counter was great! The food is delicious—stop in, you won’t be disappointed!

Small jerk chicken with rice and beans and cabbage . First off hidden gem!!! I called myself going to the seafood spot which is next door had no idea this authentic cuisine was here . I surely stopped in and have found what I’ve been looking for. Everyone is so nice which is by far the best customer service. The smoke pit OMG!!!! And very clean place . I am so happy I came here today

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 10/10 — Mamma’s Kitchen, Paterson NJ
Mamma’s Kitchen in Paterson, New Jersey is truly one of the BEST Caribbean restaurants I’ve ever eaten at — and I’ve had Caribbean food all around the world, including right in Jamaica. New York has amazing Caribbean cuisine, but Mamma’s Kitchen sits at the top of the list.
I’m a loyal customer, and every single visit is exceptional. My usual order the extra-large stewed chicken, baked macaroni and cheese, and rice and beans is always seasoned perfectly and cooked with real authenticity. The flavor is consistent, rich, and absolutely delicious every time.
The staff deserves a huge thank-you. The cooks, servers, and everyone behind the counter are outstanding professional, warm, and always on point. The food is never an issue; it’s always a blessing.
Thank you, Mamma’s Kitchen. Much success, God bless, and I’ll see you soon.
Easily 10 ,s….

I was initially reluctant to try this place but my friend kept bragging about how good the food was so I finally caved and agreed to go try it. And my good friend was right the food and the staff were on point. The vibe felt like you eating at your favorite home kitchen. We did pick up but we ate half the order inside the restaurant because we ordered the steamed fish and it takes approximately 30 minutes or more to prepare and cook. We basically ordered one of everything on the menu. Give this a try and you’ll be happy that you did. $$

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (27,000 STARS IF I COULD)
Is this a soul food spot or a Caribbean restaurant….Honestly it’s the best of both worlds.
Mamma’s Kitchen is an absolute gem. The macaroni and cheese, stewed chicken, rice and beans, cabbage, fish—everything is delicious. No misses. Every plate hits.
I usually order the extra large, and let me tell you—it lasts two full days, and somehow the food tastes even better on day two. That’s how you know it’s real cooking.
The staff is outstanding—warm, professional, and welcoming. I always make sure to tip them well because great service deserves recognition.
I’ve eaten at countless Caribbean restaurants—New York alone has thousands. I’ve tried spots all over NYC, Long Island (including a solid one in Amityville), and many others. But this one right here in New Jersey Da Best ,(Sorry Maggie’s you can’t compete).
Mamma’s Kitchen takes the crown. Number one. Top of the line.
Keep doing exactly what you’re doing at Mama’s Kitchen.
Thank God for God. Blessings to everyone there.

It’s honestly a shame, because the food here is really good — fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. You can tell the kitchen staff takes pride in what they do. But all of that gets overshadowed by how unbelievably rude and unprofessional the service is. The staff acts like they’re doing you a favor just by acknowledging you, and the attitude is consistent — cold, dismissive, and sometimes downright disrespectful.

I’m not the only one who feels this way. If you take a moment to read through other reviews, you’ll see the same pattern of complaints about rude service and unwelcoming staff. That says a lot about the management. When so many people notice the same thing, it’s clear the issue is being ignored.

It’s really disappointing because this could easily be a top-rated place if the customer service matched the quality of the food. Restaurants depend on repeat customers, and no matter how good the food is, people won’t come back if they’re treated poorly. Rude service doesn’t just ruin someone’s meal — it damages the restaurant’s reputation and drives business away.

Management seriously needs to step up, retrain their staff, and take these complaints seriously. With a better attitude and a little more respect for customers, this could be an amazing place. Until that happens, it’s hard to recommend coming here, no matter how good the food tastes.

Best Ackee and Saltfish in NJ!

This spot serves the most authentic and flavorful ackee and saltfish I’ve ever had. The ackee is buttery, the saltfish perfectly seasoned, and the balance of peppers, onions, and spices is spot on. Paired with boiled dumplings and plantains, it’s a true taste of Jamaica. Highly recommend!
