If you are looking for some good Vietnamese food here, I’d definitely recommend you try this place out. It’s in the food hall at Salt city. I had the bun thit nuong (aka cold rice noodle bowl with grilled pork) and their Vietnamese iced coffee. The bowl was refreshing and flavorful. The ice coffee is delicious, and yes they use cafe de monde coffee.

Let me break it down, I had the tofu peanut bowl nearly two years ago and have been thinking about it SINCE that visit. Today I had the pleasure of visiting Syracuse for work and staying nearby to indulge in it again. Still just as yummy as I remembered it. Vietnamese coffee is great too, you better like it sweet though. I’m sure the entire menu is bomb, definitely give it a try.

We got the Bahn mi with pork and pork skin. The vegetables were ok, the bread is also ok. The pork was non existent. Overall paying 15 dollars for a pork sandwich where there was no pork at all doesn’t fit. I hope the rest of the menu is better because this one item is terrible. I also got expired Fritos from them as part of the sandwich combo.
This one and the ribs joint, are really bad.

Amazing food. The peanut bowl is to die for and they actually give you a serving size that makes sense (don’t expect leftovers).
Normally I hate going to the city for anything but parking is super easy here mid-day (and free if you’re in the parking lot). Definitely worth it.

I tried the vegan banh mi and the vegan noodle bowl. Both were definitely decent. But, I have had better vegan banh mi elsewhere (though not in Syracuse), and I wouldn’t have gotten the noodle bowl had I known that it was served cold. The prices here are reasonable though and the lady at the counter was very nice. I have to give this place credit for having vegan options that are more than just an afterthought. If you’re looking to try Vietnamese food, but don’t eat meat, this place is definitely worth a try! And if you do eat meat, they’ve got you covered as well!

Delicious. I was on a road trip and found this gem. Didn’t realize it was downtown, so parking was a little harder. But the food was worth it. I did the pork noodle bowl. Fresh. The pork was cooked beautifully and cut to order. None was left. So good.

Had the chicken curry “coup de gras” bahn mi. It was absolutely delicious! Flavorful and the vegetables were very fresh! Great sandwich for the price

If you are a fan of Vietnamese food, you need to try Mamma Hai’s! During the Syracuse Dining Weeks, their lunch special was phenomenal. The lunch special included your choice of bahn mi, a taro egg roll (which is absolutely to die for), and a bottle of water. The first time that I ate here, I was not let down. The lemongrass coconut curry chicken bahn mi is incredible. The toasted peanuts compliment the tender braised chicken but does not overpower it. I particularly enjoyed the fact that the coconut curry braising liquid is used as a sauce to moisten the bread and to give a bit of liquid to the sandwich. This gives the sandwich the perfect balance between the saucy chicken and the crusty French baguette that is expected with a bahn mi. The taro egg roll is downright amazing. The first time I had one, I was mesmerized by the texture and flavor of the taro pairing with the thin crispy exterior of the egg roll wrap. My second time dining in I ordered the Marco Polo bahn mi, which as the name implies, has influence from Asia as well as Europe. This sandwich has a homemade steamed chicken sausage, sliced pepperoni, and char siu pork (which is a Cantonese barbecue pork), and their signature house pate. While I was initially hesitant about pepperoni on a bahn mi, I decided to trust the chef’s menu and ordered it. I was drawn in with the homemade pate and stayed for the mouth watering combination of meats. The pepperoni being my favorite of the combination, giving a slight but not over the top element of heat that I look for in a bahn mi. Keeping with my weekly habit of stopping at Mamma Hai’s, I opted for the Mixed Mien Noodles on this overcast rainy day. The noodles were the perfect combination of flavors, textures, with a slight heat and acidity. Absolutely to die for. Please stop in and try one of Mamma Hai’s famous banh mi’s today! You won’t be disappointed! Best of luck Mamma Hai!! -Dakota

Best Vietnamese restaurant in town! Mamma Hai serves authentic cuisine and my personal favorite (aside from bahn mi, of course) is their taro egg rolls!

I had the Hanoi Jane Sandwhich and the Friday Pho (vegan), and both were very tasty. It all tasted fresh as well. The sandwich was pretty long, which was nice, and they did have vegetarian options, and it was all ready pretty quickly. I would recommend visiting, the only problem is that it all cost $30 for just two things, that seems a little steep.
