… Took the new Amtrak service to Mobile and we’ve eaten at several restaurants in town. Mama’s is by far the best food in town with the best service. Affordable prices.

I remember coming here a few years ago and it was awesome. I guess they changed management or something. The service was fine. Inside was a little cramped but it was ok. The food came out suspiciously fast. I ordered country fried steak and my company ordered fried chicken and sides. It came out in less than 5 minutes. Which makes it obvious that it’s not freshly made. The macaroni we ordered was very grainy and had a weird texture. The green beans were completely bland, no seasoning at all. Corn bread muffin was very dry. The country fried steak was fine as were the mashed potatoes. The prices are reasonable but I will not be coming here again.

We went for lunch. It was a little busy but we were seated almost immediately! I had a blackened chicken salad. The meat was a little chewy but overall it was acceptable.
My husband had the veggie plate, peas, collard greens, etc. He thoroughly enjoyed it.
I had the banana pudding, no made from scratch, you can tell.
I would still recommend Mama’s. The food was good, not great. The atmosphere and service was great!

Don’t skip the banana pudding no matter what your full belly says! Packed with locals. Great tea (always a measure for me) quick meal from the lunch menu. Super Southern from scratch lunch. Service was helpful and friendly.

Such a great local place! They were packed for lunch but the service is super fast, we lingered but those who were obviously on lunch break were in and out quickly!
Our server was very attentive and the food was fantastic! Good home cooking that just makes you happy! The green blt was fabulous and the best I’ve ever had! Everything was fresh and delicious, I want to go back and try more! Definitely worth the stop, great prices too!!
Oh and the candied yams are a must have, better than Grandma’s!!!!

A great place to grab an affordable (and filling) lunch! My party of 4 arrived just after 11:00 and the place was almost empty, by noon it was almost completely full! We started with an appetizer of fried green tomatoes and ranch, which were very lightly breaded and absolutely delicious! We then ordered the daily special of chicken & dumplings, which was like having a hug in a bowl! It tasted just like grandma used to make! My husband ordered the hot momma’s chicken which was perfectly fried chicken that was tossed in buffalo sauce. The sides were just ok. My husband had the cabbage, which was delicious and flavorful, but we found the mac & cheese to be a little on the bland side. We were excited to order the squash casserole as it was recommended by our waitress, but all 3 of us found it bitter and inedible. It literally tasted like the squash was cooked in vinegar…very odd, but since we had plenty of food we didn’t say anything to our waitress. We ended the meal by sharing some delicious banana pudding. On the way out we noticed another diner with a bowl full of squash casserole and asked if it tasted bitter to her as well. She agreed completely and was glad to know that she wasn’t alone thinking so. I think this must’ve been a fluke in the recipe this day. Overall, we had a great meal in a beautiful little restaurant downtown that didn’t break the bank, and we will be back…I just wish they were open for dinner!

Ours was a fantastic experience at Mama’s on our stopover in Mobile, en route to New Orleans! Great food, nice service, interesting downtown location, and friendly prices. The fish and black eyed peas were excellent. The okra came fresh out of the fryer. Marshall Barstow, the owner, was extremely kind to share some of his stories (and a generous sampling of free sausages) with us Memorable!
