My family and I ate there today and we loved it. This is an authentic place recommended to us by a Jamaican friend. The food was excellent and the owner was very friendly. He told us about how they prepare and cook the food. They don’t use any artificial ingredients, no added sugars or anything. We will definitely be back!

Have lived in Charlotte many many years and finally decided to try this place out for dinner. It is located off Central Ave. Parking can be a hassle, so just expect to spend a few extra minutes finding parking. It’s a small little restaurant with plenty of seating inside. The place does look a little run down, but I promise you the food makes up for it! We ordered 2 beef patties, coconut bread, and the oxtail platter with rice, cabbage, and Mac and cheese! It was DELICIOUS! the oxtail fell right off the bone, and it had plenty of flavor! The cabbage and Mac and cheese had so much flavor that it all paired well with everything. The beef patties were a little but spicy, but it didn’t get in our way. I am definitely going to come back and try some more of their other dishes. I definitely recommend this place. The server there was super friendly and offered great recommendations and was super pleasant to speak with.

This was my first time having oxtail and even my first time at a Jamaican restaurant, and I was impressed! The oxtail was super tender and flavorful. The owner’s son was very friendly and explained that they only use natural ingredients and not added sugar like many Jamaican restaurants do. Go check Mama’s out!

This place is disgusting. The last time I ate there was a few years ago and I had severe food poisoning. I called to let them know and they took no accountability. They didn’t even apologize. I just read an article that said they recently were given a B at an inspection where the inspector found insects. Why is this place still open?

I used to love this place but I will never again. I ordered jerk chicken ans as soon as I opened it smelled sour like vinegar. I didn’t even eat it but my boyfriend did and it tore his stomach up, had him 9n the toilet. Apparently they are using the resturant as a drop for hurricane relief which I commend them for but it stanks and is so clutered im sure its a fire hazard. Try another jamacan spot cause this aint it anymore

Date night on a Tuesday. I’d never been here and the love of my life loves Caribbean food. He is from Barbados. The gentleman that served us was very polite and helpful. He was patient with me when I was ordering because I had no clue. They play reggae so it got my love in the dancing mood which is not something that happens on a regular basis lol. So while we waited for our food we danced. It was a Tuesday evening, so it was just the two of us that were dining in. There were plenty of take out orders. I got off work at 7:30pm so I was grateful for the hospitality. They served our food hot and great portion sizes. I would recommend trying Mama’s punch. It was awesome and I don’t drink alcohol so it was an actual fruit punch with fruits I’ve never had. I loved the atmosphere. We will go back again. I had curry shrimp and he had goat

Worst experience EVER!!!!
Mind you this was my very first time in this establishment! My reception there was horrible! The lady that owned the place was sitting there with her husband, looking at me like they could both kill me! Her husband has the most sinister look I’ve ever seen on an individual in my life!!!! Unbeknownst to me, she had gotten into an altercation with a customer prior to my arrival. So upon my arrival into the restaurant, The owner approached me asking me to give her, her cell phone, now mind you I didn’t really understand the dialect, as I’m not Jamaican, so I simply brushed it off. However, when she proceeded to prepare my order, she went to the back of the store for about five minutes, and came back and proceeded to fix my order, it was almost like she breathed a sigh of relief, and stated that she thought I was somebody else, and I said well who did you think I was? She said the lady that took my phone, I said why did she take your phone? She said because she and I got into an altercation, and I dropped my phone and she took it, and I thought you were her! I said and you were about to serve me some food?! I said my goodness I don’t even know if I should get this food, but I got it anyway, just because I had wanted some Jamaican food so bad! But when I tell you, this was the most driest, blandest food I ever tasted in my life! It was just as bland, and dry, and colorless as she and her husband‘s personalities!!!

Coming from NJ I figured this place had good reviews I would give it a try. Been searching since I moved here for authentic Jamaican food. The food was very bland, the portion is small for the price, and forget about being greeted or welcomed when you walk in ( and it was empty). The only thing on the plate that I could actually eat was the cabbage. The pic makes the food look good, but pics are deceiving! My search continues

First time trying this family owned establishment. The menu is handwritten and hangs where you need to order. I was honored to have “Mama” herself take my order. The service was quick, the food arrived hot and delicious. I had the roti with curried goat and a friend had the small curried goat meal (rice and peas with a side order of plantains). Come here hungry because the portions are huge! The meat was tender and just full of flavor! This isn’t your typical Caribbean restaurant it’s Mama’s Caribbean Grill!
