Parking in the back was surprisingly not very easy, considering I came on a rainy day during lunch. There are only about five parking spots in front of the restaurant. There are other parking spots nearby, but most of them are marked for the bank next door.
The layout is pretty much the same as the old Tasty Garden that used to be at this location. When I went in, the restaurant wasn’t very busy, and I was able to choose any open table I wanted. As I walked in, I barely saw any servers around.
We ordered xiao long bao, beef rolls, Yang Chow fried rice, and French-style beef tenderloin. Overall, everything was good. The xiao long bao was juicy, the fried rice was tasty and not too oily, and the beef was tender. The beef roll, however, was just okay.
The service was decent, especially if you don’t mind waiting, since you don’t see the servers around very often.
They also sell Cantonese BBQ at the front, so don’t forget to take some home with you when you leave.
Dumpling tasted very fresh and juicy.
Wonton soup with noodles was Ok although as pictured the soup dumplings are quite large.
Ordered to go.
$25.29
Definitely a must try if in the area.
Enjoy!!
We ordered the French Style Beef Tenderloin, Sauteed String Beans, Salt & Pepper Shrimp, Juicy Pork Dumplings, Egg Tofu Mixed Mushroomsn and Soup Filled Siu Mai. We also ordered 3 bowls of rice on the side but that is an extra charge of $1 each, which isn’t too bad. They have a drink menu but not many drinks to choose from so I didn’t get one.
The dishes were served really fast which was great. I enjoyed the tofu dish the most since I have always liked this soft tofu and they made it pretty well. The rest were pretty average but I enjoyed them. A good choice for lunch.
Not what I expected. It looks nice and crispy from its appearance, but it has a soggy, thick bun inside and meat that is kind of “dry” because all the juices have soaked into the bun.
Beef Roll:
Crispy skin, tasty inside, but other stores like Noodle Street are better.
Pan Fried Noodle with Beef:
Just OK, it is overpoweringly salty from the soy sauce flavor.
Parking is kind of hard to find. Most of them belong to Wells Fargo Bank and Bank of America customers only.
We ordered: juicy pork dumplings, spicy wontons, sautéed string beans, and beef udon! We enjoyed everything that we ordered.
My go-to here are the Xiao Long Bao and fried pork buns. The XLB can’t compare to a certain Michelin starred restaurant famous for their XLB, but Mama Lu’s is a solid second place. The fried pork bun is good with the sesame bottom adding to the crisp. This is just a bit filling though. I also like the fish dumplings.
Mama Lu’s also has some dishes, but it seems like they throw red onions in everything – from the shrimp with pumpkin and snow peas to the black bean fish. They even add this to the rice cakes. I like onions okay so this is overkill for me, but onion lovers will be happy here.
I saw some negative reviews about the service here being rude – I have never experienced that here. The staff has been nice enough every time I’ve been here. They can be a bit slow when they get busy, but that’s normal for any restaurant.
Duck was good(bone in) and the Chinese broccoli that came with it was delicious.
Spicy dumplings were okay, kind of bland.
Soup dumplings were fantastic.
Beef roll was surprisingly good. (Pretty much a large oversized egg roll)
They have many parking spaces, since it shares spaces with another restaurant and two banks nearby.
The waiting area before the main dining hall was very spacious and sells deli meats.
It was very packed and we waited for about 15 mins at dinner time.
The waitress was nice and very attentive and the food was good and came out all fast, just like the original location in MP, even the deep fried fish was not oily at all, not too salty either.
A good environment and family friendly restaurant, would come back again.
