Excellent food, high quality ingredients. All made fresh right in front of you. The empanadas are delicious. We tried the beef, chicken, and vegetable (zucchini, carrots, and potatoes) and they were all delicious with a thin and crispy shell. So thin and so crispy and piping hot! Yummmm The shrimp papusa was very tasty. I can’t wait to try other flavors. The owners make the food for you after you order so everything is fresh and hot. Everyone is very friendly. Schenectady needs more eateries like this. The flan was very mild and tasty. There are vegetarian options. The location is small and cozy but extremely clean.

Best authentic Salvadoran food in the capital region. As someone who grew up in El Salvador, I can say the pupusas are one of the best I’ve ever had. If anyone wants to try some good food from El Salvador, this is the place to go. Service was great, very friendly and the food was amazing. The price is very competitive compared to other restaurants in the area, but the quality of the food is so much better. It will definitely be my go to spot from now on.

This is the BEST El Salvadoran comfort food I have ever eaten. Literal Pupusa HEAVEN. The employees and owners are so kind and they truly care about each and every dish they serve. I feel like I’m taking away food from a sweet old abuelita’s house when I eat here. If I lived closer, I would eat here every day. I can’t recommend this place enough.

AMAZING! While it may not other people expect, this is what a traditional pupuseria looks and feels like! It was a nice, friendly environment and extremely clean. You can see staff make the pupusas which is super cool. The owners are lovely people and made sure we enjoyed our food. Cannot recommend enough!
We will definitely be making a trip to Mama Julia’s as a new weekly tradition.

Excellent food! If you’ve never had a pupusa, you’re missing out. They’re a dense and savory (but not fluffy) griddlecake made of cornflour, stuffed with fillings, and flattened and cooked on a flat top grill. They are eaten with lightly fermented cabbage (sort of like a sauerkraut) and a thin tomato sauce. I had a revuelta (beans, pork, and cheese) and a shrimp and both were amazing. The horchata was perfect. Also, the nicest, most welcoming people own this place! We plan to become regulars and can’t wait to try their lunch specials!

Nestled in the Sunoco gas station area off of Altamont Ave in Rotterdam, Mama Julia’s pupuseria offers a true taste of El Salvador. The staff were incredibly welcoming upon arrival and attentive to our family. We ordered their Cebada drinks (A Barley/Strawberry drink), several pupusas (Revuleta, Beans/Cheese, and Loroco/Cheese) that came with their red sauce and curtido or slaw. I also decided to grab their marinated chicken dish and flan for dessert. Everything was well made with love and was very delicious. The owner and manager were open to suggestions/feedback on the food and experience. Our overall experience was pleasant, and my Salvadoran husband was so happy to finally have a pupuseria / food in the area that represents his culture. We will definitely be regular customers at Mama Julia’s.

The food was amazing and the staff was so friendly. The chicken and cheese pupusas were the best I’ve ever had! The horchata was also delicious. The pricing was also very fair which is hard to find for the quality of this food. Highly recommend checking this place out!!
