If you want a quiet place, this isn’t it. This restaurant is booming as soon as you walk in. There’s a line to pay for your buffet. Great prices, by the way. There’s a lady that makes sure you use hand sanitizer before you grab a plate. I really loved that. It’s southern cooking at it’s finest in the buffet. They have servers constantly walking behind and cleaning, which again I love, especially for a buffet. Will definitely go back.

I recently scheduled a field trip to Mama Hamil’s for a group of students aged 6–10. The price listed on the website was $11.55 plus tax for children.

Just days before our visit, I called to confirm our reservation. During that call, I was informed that our students would be charged the adult price. Surprised, I asked to speak with the manager and was directed to Bailey. When I asked if she was the manager, she stated that she was the secretary but could handle my concerns.

I explained that the website clearly lists children’s prices at 11.55. I asked why my students were being charged the adult rate. Bailey informed me that when groups come in—regardless of age—they are charged the adult price. I expressed that this policy is not stated on the website and that parent letters had already been sent home to parents reflecting the posted children’s price. At that point, changing the cost was not feasible for our families.

While Bailey apologized and said they would work on updating the website, I shared that an apology did not resolve the issue for my students or their parents. I asked if an exception could be made given the circumstances, but she declined. I was also told that if we did not wish to pay the adult price, we could find somewhere else to eat. When I asked to speak with a manager or the owner, I was told there was no manager available and that she could not provide the owner’s name. The call ended abruptly.

As an educator organizing experiences for young children, clear communication and respectful customer service are extremely important. It was disappointing to encounter both a pricing discrepancy and what felt like dismissive treatment when trying to resolve the issue.

I believe businesses thrive on transparency and kindness, especially when serving families and schools. I hope this feedback encourages improvements in communication and customer service practices moving forward. Unfortunately, based on this experience, I cannot recommend this restaurant to others who value professionalism and courtesy. For any schools or groups who are considering this establishment, please beware of the DECEPTION.

It’s a soul food restaurant the food is good depending on what you like. Their’s a variety of sides to choose from. Salad & dessert bar unlimited refills and reasonable price under $15 buffet style and handicap accessible. Overall great place to visit

Came through looking for something that was not a chain restaurant. This place was great. almost everything was good. The fish was excellent. The BBQ was good as well and I don’t say that about restaurants. The Mac and could use more. The desserts tasted homemade. This is a place to remember when going through Mississippi.

It was okay but the food was able to be plated with everything running together..didn’t realize it wasn’t a soul food restaurant but just southern cooking that could be made at home. People were friendly. Accommodation for people who has knee injuries or even health related issues was not accommodating because you pay for a buffet downstairs but walk upstairs to eat and you couldn’t enjoy your meal because if wanted another plate you will have face stairs again so forget it!! Table seating wasn’t private because you were sitting at tables with strangers like your first day at school. $32.00 for school plate of food wasn’t the experience desired but you live and you learn.Gulfcoast food wayyyyy better and more bang for your bucks!! Thanks for the experience Mama!!

Mama Hamil’s is Madison and the Metro’s go-to for Southern Home Cooking!

An enormous buffet in an enormous building that looks like a barn.

They have an assortment for everyone. Choices of salads, coleslaw, broccoli, ambrosia and a full salad bar.

Almost every vegetable is available. Corn, beans, potatoes in all of their glory and options.

Multiple meats, smoked ribs, fried chicken, baked chicken, gizzards and livers.

Giant rolls or cornbread.

A variety of desserts; fresh banana pudding, homemade cinnamon rolls, and other cakes.

Also, it’s a good value. $15 for all u-can-eat and the drink is included. Multiple tables and booths and some huge, long tables for community seating when they are busy!

But, even when they are busy the wait is never long, even when the line is out the door.

The restaurant is decorated in old school farmhouse and has the history of Madison adorning its walls. Red and white checkered table clothes. Excellent service with refills and fresh plates at the ready.

I went for an early father’s day since my parents like this place a lot and for 4 people it was $65 which wasn’t bad. Anyway, the food was pretty mid! I also got the peach cobbler and it wasn’t that great at all. The cinnamon roll also looked extremely dry but it was still moist. I would just say the desserts aren’t worth it at all. The banana pudding looked disgusting. The mac & cheese did not look appealing. Overall though, I loved the cabbage, lima beans , and red beans & rice though & rib thingy. I may come back since the atmosphere is chill but who knows.

Country cooking in the place everyone knows to go. Buffet with to-go plates available for separate fee. The place is huge, but always busy. I suggest going right as they open or around 1pm, because the line often goes outside and onto the porch. Quite a bit of the lower level seating is on huge plank tables with benches. It’s nice to enjoy a quick chat with the new friends you didn’t know you had. All walks of life, colors, and creeds are at this place to enjoy the food, so if that’s not your jam, find somewhere else.

As for vegetarians, expect to go straight to the salad bar. Creamed corn, Mac and cheese, and mashed potatoes are your only warm options. The cold section has great potato salad and a couple other possibilities. The breads and desserts are safe. No guarantees on anything, but coming from someone who mourns the time her body allowed most of the food on that line, I can say you’re still gonna get your money’s worth.

Stop reading this review and just go. You’ll see what I mean.
