If you’re not recognized or acknowledged by staff they will attempt to get you the check early by speaking japanese or signaling to waitresses to hustle you out the door to make room for locals (couples) who do not make reservations who in turn expect staff to elbow you out of the sushi bar. The locals (couples) will give you dirty looks as if you’re a nuisance taking up their precious space. (Talega)

We had some really good sushi here. The place is small, and welcoming. The sushi chef Hide is amazing. He knows how to put together some great fish. Such a pleasure discovering this amazing place. Service was very quick and attentive as well.

Good Sushi. Not expensive and good quality food. There’s the fake crab and cream cheese( in my opinion it’s used on cheaper sushi restaurants…)but it’s not boring , fresh, crispy. Beautiful sashimi cutter well 🙂 I’m definitely coming back and advise anyone to pass by and try it too 😉 all is made on the moment

Small intimate space, friendly and attentive Chef and staff. I sat at the sushi bar and had the 10pc. Sashimi. It looked so good that I forgot to take a photo. Everything was excellent. Highly recommend a visit if you’re in town, even the sushi snobs will love this place!

Got the scallops, salmon roe, mackerel, and squid sushi. Everything was fresh and delicious. The chefs and servers were friendly. I ordered a salad not knowing that is mostly spinach which I’m allergic to. My bad. they were willing and happy to change it out and make me a custom salad that did not include spinach. I really appreciate that. Such nice people!

There is some pretty delicious sushi coming from this nondescript tiny strip mall location. I needed to find a place for some takeout sushi and was thoroughly impressed with the service, the quality and the presentation.
Better yet was the service and attitude of the staff… this seems like a neighborhood favorite for a reason.

When we searched for the best sushi place in San Clemente, Malulu Sushi came up first on the list.
Good things come in small packages, right? Well, this is a small place, but it doesn’t matter because the food & service are excellent.
To me, service is very important!!! At Malulu, the Japanese hospitality is on full display. Then, the food came, and we realized that we had found our favorite sushi place in SC.
Everything we ordered was tasty. And to our surprise, the female sushi chef made the best spicy yellow tail handroll. It reminded us of a sushi roll that we could only get at a sushi restaurant in Laguna Niguel (sadly, the chef moved to Japan).
We are already planning to go back this week & bring some friends along.
