For the malatang, it’s all self-serve for the ingredients, and you weigh/tell them what soup base you want at the counter. The selection of veggies is pretty large, and the meats were pretty good quality. Price point of $20/lbs (it says $1.25/oz on the wall which required some mental maths XD) is a bit high, but nothing crazy. Each of our bowls came out to be in the $15-20 range.
I think they have some credit card surcharge (like 3%? which is unfortunate.) Overall good experience and would come back.
The space is average, food decently quickly prepared, and the taste solid.
Bathroom: N/A
Didn’t use the bathroom
Customer Service: 4/5.
Not really customer service cuz it’s like more of an eat n go kinda place. However lots of self service stuff and liked how there was water readily available. I also liked the beepy thing to call you when the food was ready
Ambiance: 2/5
Very cramped and not too clean
Food: 4/5
Very good food! It was the right amount of spice for what I chosen and I was able to pick everything I loved. Had wide variety. I wish I had gotten a bowl of rice though.
Wow: -0.25/1.
Normal restaurant. However, it’s a bit overpriced and crowded
Total Score = (CS + 2*AM + 5*FOOD + WOW)/0.9
This place has indeed lots of potential to be an outstanding Souping joint . The soup base choices are certainly flavorful. The variety of soup ingredients is commendable.
However, many of ingredients are frozen, pre-processed items. Worst amount them is spam meat, an unhealthy nitrate-preserved material that should be avoided . Then there’s what is labeled as crab, but it’s that awful FAKE surimi concoction manufactured to look like crab meat☹️☹️☹️. There’s even a processed vegetable patty (vegetables are meant to be eaten whole).
Several of the noodles are also dried factory-made very starchy material (useless calories!!!).
Why not add more fresh ingredients? Fresh slices of meats for example, and maybe be get rid of those various balls that are made fillers.
Their prices got more expensive. Now a bowl of ramen with some meat is easily $20-30! Which is way overpriced. They charge $17 per pound of raw material.
A great place for malatang, aka you pick ingredients and put in a bowl and pay by ounces and they will cook for you. The food quality and taste is 3/5. The ingredients are good, but nothing more than supermarket stuff. However, the vibe is pretty good so I will pump it up to 4/5. It is definitely very comforting, like eating a bowl of ramen.
