Many reviews mention the free sample guy, but we found them charming and having a fun personality. It was clear they have a good time at Maki of Japan! I tried the teriyaki sample and it was amazing, but I got the orange chicken and noodles with veggies. My wife and I both compared it to Panda Express, but she thought it was better than Panda Express and I’m inclined to agree. At the register, the guy randomly said the drink I got was free and we could have free refills—super nice, something they didn’t have to do! Super yummy. Great people.

Update 09/06: I tried to give them another chance, but because of the music blasting so loud I had to keep repeating myself over and over again just to get the right food. If you’re going to play music, which I am to have fun at work, make sure it’s at manageable so that your customers don’t have to keep repeating

I’ve been a regular at Maki of Japan in Grapevine Mills for a while now, but it’s honestly getting harder to justify coming back. The employees are always rude and disrespectful customer service seems like an afterthought here.

To make matters worse, they always stop serving their most popular dishes (like my favorite bourbon chicken) more than an hour before closing. If you’re going to post closing hours, at least offer your full menu until then. Cutting off the best items early just tells your regulars that their business doesn’t matter.

I’ve given this place multiple chances, but the pattern never changes. This kind of experience makes it really easy to take my money elsewhere

The food was delicious. They gave me a very large portion for a reasonable price. They also gave me a handful of napkins. They didn’t cheap out. Would recommend and visit again

Employees are RUDE as hell. The sample guy is the nicest one and that is what reels you in. Once you get to pay, that dude is rude. I asked for napkins and the guy didn’t want to give me any. He just waved his hand at me like for me to go away. I honestly wanted my money back but my son really wanted this food. Never coming back here. Food was mediocre at best!

I love this place! If I know I’m coming to the Grapevine Mills Mall. I already knowing I’m eating here. The teriyaki chicken is the best. It comes with mixed vegetables and your choice of fried or white rice, or noodles. It’s made fresh right in front of you so it’s always SUPER HOT! If you’re reading this and can’t decide. Go ahead and try it. I’m sure you’ll love it as much as I do.

The worst of the entire food court. Extremely rude and very unprofessional. I get it’s a food court restaurant, but at a very minimum I would expect the people taking orders to be able to answer questions about their menu. As I ordered my first entree I informed the guy taking my order I didn’t want any meat (fried rice and mixed veggies as offered on the sides menu). I then asked about what came on the kids menu and the guy screamed “NEXT!!!”. I told him I still had more to my order (with my daughter standing in front of me). He again screamed “NEXT!!!” and then walked away. Another guy then walks up.

My no meat order had orange chicken on it. I told the 2nd guy this was not supposed to have any meat… his response was “yes it’s the orange chicken”. I told him I ordered only fried rice and veggies… and he responded sarcastically with “our orange chicken comes with chicken”.

I requested a refund.

What a bad experience this place ay the mall. All team members are the worse. I was confused and there was a plate and I thought was a sample dish. And all Spanish speaking employees started to scream. I apologize for my confusion but they continued arguing and offending me for my mistake. Worse team members, disrespectful and not education at all. Will never go back to that location or any place with that name.

Maki of Japan is a standout in the food court dining scene, offering exceptional Japanese cuisine that feels more like a restaurant experience than fast food. Whether you’re craving teriyaki, sushi, or hibachi, this place delivers consistently delicious, high-quality meals that won’t break the bank.

The teriyaki dishes are a must-try—tender, perfectly seasoned chicken or beef served over fluffy steamed rice with a side of crisp, sautéed vegetables. The flavor is rich and authentic, with just the right balance of sweetness and umami. For sushi lovers, the rolls are always fresh, beautifully prepared, and surprisingly flavorful for a food court setting. Their hibachi plates are another highlight, with generous portions of protein, vegetables, and fried rice, cooked to perfection.

What truly elevates Maki of Japan is the excellent service. Despite being in a fast-paced environment, the staff remains friendly, attentive, and efficient. Orders are prepared quickly without compromising on quality, making it a perfect option for a quick but satisfying meal. The cleanliness and organization of their station also stand out, showing their commitment to maintaining high standards.

Overall, Maki of Japan offers a fantastic combination of affordability, taste, and convenience. Whether you’re on a lunch break or shopping and need a flavorful pick-me-up, this spot consistently delivers. It’s rare to find such care and quality in a food court, and for that, they deserve a glowing five-star review. Highly recommended for fans of Japanese cuisine!

The man handing out free samples stood in front of me while I was walking and would NOT let me and my family pass! His constant harassment every time I walk through the mall is exhausting. I do NOT recommend going here or supporting this kind of behavior.

Older guy at the counter was the epitome of rude. Accused us of ordering the wrong food when we clearly pointed to what we wanted. Then wants to slam our food on the counter and get an attitude with us. Food was okay but service was absolutely abysmal.
