We enjoy Hawaiian style food, and decided to give Makai a try for a to go lunch. When we walked in first thing we noticed was the restraunt area is clean and cozy. When we approached the ordering station the staff was friendly and helpful. I ordered a big plate and chose teriyaki steak, khalua pig, sweet corn, mac salad, rice, and a side of the garlic edaname. Everything was great. The garlic edaname was served cold which I had never tried it that way before, but still delicious. I was feeling extra hungry that day and may have ordered too much. Whether you are looking for a quick dine in or a to go order, Makati Island is a great choice if you are craving Hawaiian style food.

This was my third time visiting this restaurant. I came here about a few years ago when they first opened.
The prices have gone up while the quality and portions have remained about the same.
I got the regular bowl with the tuna poke. There’s a $2.00 extra top charge for the poke ingredient.
So it was about $10 plus tax for the small bowl with poke. I think that is very reasonable compared to other comparable restaurants.
The taste of the tuna was what I expected, it wasn’t super good or bad.
The chicken options did not look very appetizing ( I enclosed a photo of them.)
The workers there were all business and not very friendly today. No smiles.
The dining area was clean. It’s very spacious and comfortable to sit and eat in.
There was plenty of parking right in front.
Overall I was happy with my dining experience at Makai island grill and I would come back again.

Walked in at 8:10. There were three workers at the front that saw us come in and didn’t greet or say anything at that. When the lady with the long blonde pony tail finally decided to take our order (still haven’t been greeted), first thing she says is “just so you know we’re out of white rice.” So we walk out.

I understand that they closed at 9pm but they had 50 mins and have in mind that it already looked like they had everything pre closed. Sucks for the manager at this location who misses out on their sales because they have employees who don’t care.

I stopped here to pick up a teriyaki Chicken bowl with salted edamame for myself. My son picked up katsu chicken and rice bowl. The teriyaki chicken was flavorful with the extra sauce. However the chicken was a bit dry. The rice was fine and the edamame tasted good. Maybe will try it again.

We’ve been here many times, and every time it’s a great experience. Service is good. I love their Ahi Tuna (poke) and katsu. Everything is good though. Restaurant is always clean.
And the best part, it’s about 5 minutes from home lol. I definitely recommend this place. It’s yummy less star though for the dirty restroom .

The following issues made the meal inedible: Cold & Burnt Proteins: Both the double katsu chicken and the teriyaki chicken were severely burnt and served cold.
Inedible Rice: The rice which should be a staple, was served cold and had a poor texture.
Ordered at around 5pm witch I expected to be dinner rush hour with fresh hot food instead got left over from lunch with little to no tempt to even warm it up. Won’t be coming back.

Location was the one on Bluediamond

Pure Hawaiian influence with the perfect local experience. Ukulele and steel guitar rhythms play quietly in the background, open atmosphere still feels inclusive to your experience.

Real Kalua pig flavor!
Calrose sticky rice!
Chicken katsu perfection! (Not greasy) with authentic sauce.

Good Mac salad (I mixed with Kim che slaw).

And how you can tell the local influence was well thought out… Aloha Shoyu!

Great relaxed vibe, in re-imagined plate lunch style.

One of the best local food experiences in Vegas and prices aren’t bad… $10 -15 a plate. And poke is a side offered too.

This is my first time at Makai and they have exceeded my expectations. The restaurant is nicely decorated in Hawaiian theme. The restaurant is very clean , fresh and inviting.
The best Hawaiian food in town. Teriyaki chicken and Mochiko wings are perfect with the taste of bbq in it, large portion and you will eat everything, delicious all the way!!
The staff were super friendly and we have received the best service.
Healthy, clean and delicious, especially for the money it presents a great value.
I would recommend Makai to anyone to likes island food. Its like having the islands in your backyard. Highly recommended!!!

Not impressed with the food and service.
I have been there many times before, but it seems like the quality has gone down.
The service was not great. The teenagers that worked there was more busy talking amongst themselves than cater to the customers. We will not be coming back.

Living on the SW for 8yrs I Was a long time fan of another Hawaiian spot off Durango and Windmill. Needless to say my neighbors from Maui told me about this little gem on Blue Diamond and after trying Makai once no other Hawaiian spot exists. Great cooks, Large portions and reasonable prices. Must try
