I love the bowls here but the protein portion size is too small. I thought it was just because I ordered via Ubereats (as many restaurants skimp on protein for deliveries) but I also ordered in person and was disappointed by the amount of chicken as well.

Bowl was flavorful but most of the brisket that I got was just huge chunks of fat, it was more fat than meat. I’m not used to receiving such low quality from them, maybe it’s just this location.

I ordered online from MaiZal at the Skyland Town Center location, and I will say that my food was ready on time and hot when I arrived, which I appreciated. However, I’m only giving two stars because they got my order wrong. I ordered the tempura fish taco but was given the shrimp taco instead. For me, this wasn’t a huge deal since I’m not allergic to shrimp, but if someone had a shrimp allergy and could only eat fish, this mistake could have been a serious problem.
Beyond the allergy concern, I was still disappointed because I ordered a fish taco and I wanted fish, not shrimp. As a teacher in the area, I have a short lunch break and didn’t have time to go back and have them fix it, so I just had to eat what I was given. The food itself wasn’t bad, but I was frustrated that my order was incorrect, especially since the restaurant wasn’t busy at all when I picked it up. When a place isn’t slammed with customers, accuracy should not be an issue.
I’m including a picture of both my receipt and the shrimp taco (even though it was half-eaten) so that anyone reading this review can see that I did, in fact, order fish but was given shrimp instead.
While I like that this location has free parking (a rarity in DC), I don’t think I’ll be returning. The convenience of online ordering and parking is nice, but the service was disappointing.

Fresh food, clean restaurant, yummy sauces. Also they have nice unique ingredients like plantains, street corn, and picked veggies, arepas which gives you a different experience from chipotle. Plantains were cooked to perfection and the elote (corn) was hot and fresh.

I was so disappointed. I ordered a veggie quesadilla on Friday and it was seriously the BEST quesadilla I have ever had. I ordered it again on Sunday and it was inedible. There was no queso or street sauce. The tortilla did look as if it had been grilled or even warmed up. It was basically raw, making the quesadilla flavorless. I thought I had found my go-to for great Mexican food. I guess I’m still on the hunt.

Early evening/late afternoon I walk in and notice It’s so pretty and clean, I wish that was enough but sadly it’s not. Then there is an employee behind the counter on the phone, loudly talking about inappropriate things. She didn’t greet us, just stared at us. While talking on the phone, and laughing!
I don’t understand business that hire people who are unable to communicate with customers. We ordered a couple things don’t remember what, and I had to repeat my order SEVERAL times and she kept pointing to the wrong thing and saying the wrong items. Then when we FINALLY got on the same page she puts peppers in my food that don’t go in there and neither did I ask for it! There was a guy in the kitchen area who saw we were having a communication problem, he could have helped but all he did was LAUGH and talk trash. The other two employees in the back were not trying to help. I think she put 2 1/2 pieces of steak in my arepa and a bunch of peppers! The food was not worth the cost, or the headache! I was told the evening crew is trash (which I’ve witnessed), the early crew are great and the good is good too. But I didn’t have that experience.
The sauces I tried were good.
This was some of the WORST customer service I’ve EVER had!

Grateful for more food options in Ward 7 and close to Ward 8, I’m glad Maizal is open. Inside the Skyland development, it’s one of several fast-casual options.
The inside is new and beautiful with two murals on the walls, two clean restrooms, and plenty of seating.
The menu is large and includes tacos, enchilada, empanadas, etc. I ordered the curry chicken empanada with chimichurri sauce. It wasn’t the best I’ve had, but it was decent.
Service was unusually slow, but there’s plenty of parking with a large lot just outside.

Wanted to try something new. I ordered a Veggie Delight bowl and the server was about to box my order up without adding the quinoa bites. I asked him about them only to learn they did not have any. This is after I was told I couldn’t add shrimp to a bowl even though they have shrimp tacos. I ended up just leaving and going to Chipotle. pretty crappy location and service.

THEY HAVE ROACHES!! A CUSTOMER NEXT TO ME ACTUALLY CANCELED HER ORDER AND LEFT AFTER POINTING OUT A ROACH CRAWLING ON THE SALAD BAR AREA. THE STAFF MEMBER COMPLETELY IGNORED HER, THEN AFTER SHE LEFT, KILLED THE ROACH WITH A NAPKIN AND CONTINUED TAKING THE NEXT ORDER AS IF NOTHING HAPPENED. I ALSO GOT A REFUND AND LEFT IMMEDIATELY. WHEN I ASKED HOW LONG THIS HAS BEEN AN ISSUE, THE EMPLOYEE IGNORED ME TOO. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE AND UNSANITARY. I STRONGLY ADVISE AGAINST EATING HERE UNTIL THEY ADDRESS THIS INFESTATION PROPERLY.
