The owner’s son is extremely friendly and helpful, and they even offer complimentary tea (Sadaf/Ahmad tea bags with hot water). A lot of people come here just for the fresh bread, which they sell in huge quantities at amazingly low prices. The butcher is a practicing Muslim who prays five times a day, and you can feel the sincerity in how they run the place.
Overall, this restaurant is one of the best food options in the area. I come here twice a week — amazing spot.
To be honest, I wasn’t impressed with this dish.
There’s a lot of sauce on top, and it’s so dominant that you can hardly taste the dumplings themselves.
There’s something like beans on top (which are also spicy), and they completely overwhelm the taste of the filling.
There is meat and onion inside, but the taste is very difficult to discern everything is mixed into a mush.
It’s an acquired taste, but I give it a solid 4/10.
Qabili Palau (Lamb) Large portion
Now that’s a different story.
Half of the portion is meat, meat on the bone. It literally falls off the bone and melts in your mouth very soft and tender.
The rice is really unusual and delicious the carrots and raisins complement each other perfectly, creating a slightly caramel flavor.
The salad is ordinary, nothing special, but that’s not a minus.
I will definitely come back for this dish again.
Rating: 8.5/10, without exaggeration this is the best Qabili Palau I’ve tried in the Bay Area.
The people are very nice, great service, and the food was generous portions, high quality, prepared well, and delicious. We look forward to trying more of the menu.
Every time I take lunch at Maiwand Market, it truly feels like my own home. The staff are incredibly kind, friendly, and welcoming, and they treat everyone with honesty and respect. The place is always clean, the food is fresh and delicious, and the atmosphere is full of warmth. You don’t just eat here—you feel cared for. Maiwand Market is more than a market; it’s a community and a second home for me.
The Chapli kebabs were out of this world – soft and fresh with the right amount of crispiness. Served with white rice and a small piece of afghan bread. I’ve not had such good kebabs even in NYC or Queens.
The afghan pulao was nice – a bit too sweet for my liking but I loved the huge bone of lamb served with it. The meat was tender, flavorful and just falling off the bone.
Both dishes came with a side of nan, salad, yogurt and green chutney. I wish the yogurt was served in a separate container. I think the prices were reasonable. We got takeout so couldn’t enjoy the ambience of the place. But hope to be back soon.
The place is halal. Quick service.
The restaurant is part of the Afghan market and it serves regular Afghan food.
Portions were huge.
I ordered a combo Chapli with brown rice and it was enough for two meals.
And I could not resist and ordered potatoes bulani. That portion was so huge it was delivered in large pizza box.
Inside dinning is not allowed, takeout only.
Everything in combo was great. The chicken cubes were well done, Chapli was good.
I still prefer Afghani restaurant in Fremont, but this was good.
