What a fun place to visit and eat! It’s historic and America’s 1st drive-through! The maid rite burgers are very tasty! Not a huge building but enough room for several tables inside! The staff was busy filling orders and tried to get you taken care of asap. Definitely worth a stop!

The food is good, but you’re coming here for the atmosphere. The owner (pictured) will happily give you the nickel tour of Maid-Rite’s humble beginnings as a converted rail car; the first ever drive-in restaurant; over a century of service and great food served up in unique, comfortable surroundings.
Definitely have the homemade root beer!

We stopped in Springfield during a long road trip and saw there was a Made-Rite and had to stop since we’ve had it before other areas of the country.
The food, drinks, and service was wonderful, but what really made my day was the history on the place! I couldn’t believe that this building was one of the original franchises and on the National registry of historical places built in 1924. They also hold the claim as the first drive thru restaurant!

This has been standard Saturday lunch growing up. And when I went to SHS, this was also lunch some days. This is an institution. The owner is so nice, and you cannot recreate these at home. It’s the bun/mustard/pickle combo and the meat is just right. Add a homemade root beer and you are good to go! The fries are good to eat in the car on the drive home, obvi.

Great experience here. Took our three kiddos in and the place was great. Staff very friendly. Feels like an old school burger joint. Menu is simple. We got one of everything. The samwiches are great, fries good, was impressed w chili and curds. Portions are honestly how Americans should be eating vs. how much they want. Would recommend and willl definitely return. It is worth checking out if you’re in the area vs. eating at a franchise

They have the loose meat sandwiches. Surprisingly, they were really good. Nothing fancy but just a good little sandwich. Wish the fries were a little more seasoned or maybe had season salt out where customers had the option to use it if they choose to. Need more drink options. We would come back.

My own fault I ordered that burger with no onions… Instead of plain… So with the relish on it I still couldn’t eat it…. But the root beer was amazing… Took me back to childhood!

It’s exactly what you’d want out of a Springfield staple. Smooshed, greasy, and crazy flavorful. Plus, it’s the only place in town to get RC cola from a soda fountain (and their house root beer).

Maid rite has been a favorite since I was a little girl! I grew up eating Maid Rite in Quincy IL. Absolutely love the Springfield location, especially their rootbeer!
