I called to ordered pick up and they had no idea what papaya salad was. That was a red flag for me. I ordered anyway because this was the closest Thai restaurant to my friend’s house. I ordered larb, pad thai, pineapple fried rice, and chicken wings.
Larb was lack of citrus flavor. The pork was not stirred fried enough. Had an after taste. Pad thai was eatable, not great. Not enough sweetness on the noodles. Fried rice was terrible. It was very soggy. When cooking fry rice, you have to cook the white rice a certain way and the rice should rest in the fridge before frying it. There were no pineapple flavored. Just alot of soy sauce. Never use soy sauce to cook pineapple fry rice. Chinese fry rice, yes for soy sauce. Chicken wings were un eatable. Rock hard. Cooked in the fryer way too long and the oil was old.
On top of that, I paid for 2 orders of chicken wings, but they only gave me 1 order. Not that I will eat them, but I did paid for it. I manage to fixed the larb, but threw away the rest of the food.
In response to your answer about my review. What I was saying are not based on preference. When you forgot 1 of my order is not preference. I paid for 2 chicken wing orders but got only 1. It was a takeout order. I didn’t check. I found out was when I got home.
Cooking with old oil is not preference. On top of that, chicken wings were too hard from overcook. That’s not preference.
As far as preference goes, the flavor of your food was the only thing that you can say was a preference.
As one owner to another, you only concentrate about the papaya salad and commented on that and preference. You didn’t address about a missing order, nor did you give an explanation that would support the way you cook. If you really know Thai or Laos food, papaya salad is one of the most popular dishes. You can say “not many people order it, there we do not have it on the menu.”
When something like this happened at my establishments, I look at the review. See if this person knows what they’re saying. If my staff forgot something, it is on me. Not my staff. And I would apologize to that customer and tell that customer to come back again and we will give them 50% off the tab. Everyone makes mistakes, but in restaurant business, we must take full responsibility, even if you didn’t make that mistake yourself. As a leader and owner, you hire your staff. And importantly, you must not get angry at your staff for making this mistake. Just let them know things happens. People forget. Just try to remember next time. When you take full responsibility, your staff will appreciate you greatly and they will enjoy working at your establishment.
Mai Thai is one of the restaurants we take out of town friends to and they always enjoy it.
I got the most spicy version available of the lunch pad Thai. The lunch special is particularly impressive not just for its taste but also for its value. It is priced reasonably and comes with a generous portion. After trying a few other Thai restaurants in Augusta, this place really stands out. Sadly, I had a lot of disappointing Pad Thai, so I am aware of the different ways this dish can be messed up. Issues relating to too much fish sauce, almost zero spice, being too being dry, disappointing Pad Thai sauce, etc, are probably the most common.
Fortunately, this place had none of these problems! This place is one of the few that stands out in my memory of doing a great job with getting the flavor right while still being quite spicy. Overall, this place was remarkable.
Came out piping hot and fresh.
Very generous with the portions!
Dish is the Pad Thai with chicken – extra spice thanks to another reviewer mentioning you can ask for that.
I’d only recommend they expand their choice of music played in the restaurant – I already hear Billie Joel and Maroon 5 everywhere I go, haha.
