This place has its own parking by the gas station. We were seated right away when we walked in. We ordered a lot of things that I forgot the name of. I didn’t take a picture of the menu to go back to and figure out the names. but everything we ordered was delicious. On top of that, service was excellent. Our server was very nice and attentive. Will definitely come back here again when I am on the island.

This place is legendary, but you have to order the right stuff. Get the Curry Crab, it’s one of the best dishes you will ever have. It’s going to be messy, but oh so good. Probably enough to share between 3-4 people. Get rice with it and/or get a baguette.

We also got some sautees green veggie, also delish. I wouldn’t get the other stuff as that is more run-of-the-mill Vietnamese food and if you want that, there are other places which will be better. However if you are looking for a unique dish, you MUST try the curry crab. Must Must.

If you are visiting Honolulu , you have to try this once.

The place itself is a bit older but go for the Curry Crab, not the ambience.

Absolutely phenomenal experience at Mai Lan! This charming mom-and-pop spot serves up the freshest Vietnamese cuisine I’ve had in Honolulu – think flavorful pho bursting with herbs, crispy spring rolls, and their signature fried rice with lup cheong and shrimp that’s just unbeatable. It’s no wonder they’re a hit with Japanese tourists, but with the current yen exchange rate hitting travel budgets, business has slowed a bit. Locals, this is your cue to step up and support this hidden gem on Keeaumoku Street! The warm service and authentic dishes make it feel like home. Highly recommend – 5 stars all the way!

Crab curry costs $88 and they didn’t tell us ahead of time… It’s ok because it really did taste good. BUT!!! There was a string of hair in the spring roll, and the waitress only offered to take half off?? So disgusting

Everything we ordered today tastes good, but that string of hair…just stay away. (Look at the cockroach experience from another customer!!) I rareeely give 1 star to restaurants because I believe business owners work hard and try their best to keep their business running. But this attitude, this sanitary level?? nahhhhhh

First time visit and will return. We met owner Sam, who was delightful. He was very welcoming and accommodated my husband’s vegan requests. The Ong Choi vegan style was delicious, as was the soup noodle dish with veg broth and tofu. I enjoyed the lemongrass beef on vermicelli noodles. Veggies fresh and stir-fried just right. Good portions. Free parking. Atmosphere a 3 just because the shop front/entrance looked a bit run down. We almost didn’t go in, but glad we did. Don’t be fooled by the exterior.

Wow great Vietnamese food! That crab (market price) curry and bread was good! The shrimp soup with noodles was good too! The eggroll wrapped in lettuce yummy. She asked us if she wanted us to wrap each piece so she did. Good last vacation meal. Definitely will eat here again if I have a trip here the next time! After having a disappointment with the Korean food the night before..

The crab curry was terrific loved every bit of it. The fried rice smelled so good but the portion is too much for two people so be careful. We ordered the garlic shrimp oh my god. Heaven. Uncle was very friendly and have a mango too. It’s a must visit if are in Honolulu.

The food was fine, but the service attitude was VERY BAD.

We asked a simple question to confirm one of the dishes we ordered. The older male staff member was extremely impatient, kept sighing loudly, and spoke in a rude tone.
Even worse, he directly touched our rolls with his hands while explaining, which was uncomfortable and unacceptable.

This kind of service is really disappointing and made us feel disrespected.

The Vietnamese food at Mai Lan is undoubtedly authentic and aromatic. We tried Pork Dumplings, Vietnamese crepes, Chicken Curry, Spring rolls, and Chicken Pho. The dishes are large. Good service.

The food is good, roaches also love it. The boss says roaches are a normal phenomenon, only Americans would mind and call the police. The waiter only gave us a new pair of chopsticks and let us continue eating, without any disinfection. I am Asian but I also feel disgusted.
