I’ve been going to the original Maht Gaek in Plano and have been a huge fan. We finally had a chance to go to the Carrollton location and I can say that our experience was just as good as the ones we had at the OG location. The portions here are huge and most of the entrees are meant to be shared so it’s generally best to come with a group. The Galbijjim is amazing and our favorite dish. However, it’s fairly expensive and will set you back $90. The baked pork ribs with the original sauce are also a winner and a lot more affordable. Can’t go wrong with either!

I love the atmosphere of this restaurant. They are usually very busy especially in the weekends, but I love the energy of the restaurant. I usually order seafood tofu soup. They use crabs and this is the only restaurant I know that uses crabs in the tofu soup.

Great service with delicious food. Portions are definitely big enough to share so don’t be spooked by the higher prices. It’s more food.

Army Stew was delicious with plenty of meat and toppings inside. LA Galbi was good too, little burnt but that’s not too bad. Will return to try more dishes!

Update: the owner’s response below is an utterly pathetic lie.

This place has gone from good to completely unacceptable in the span of about 6 months. I used to come semi-regularly, but after my last experiences I’m genuinely warning people to stay away.

First, the to-go packaging is criminally negligent. They’re using the thinnest, cheapest plastic soup containers you can buy in bulk from a dollar store. I ordered budae jjigae and has leftover to go, it completely collapsed on one side while I was trying to put the cap on the cup, hot soup poured straight down my shirt, all over my pants, socks and shoes.

Luckily the broth wasn’t boiling-hot this time, had it been properly steaming, I would have had serious burns and probably an ER visit. This is not “oops, cheap container”; this is reckless cost-cutting that puts customers at risk of real injury. I have pictures my soup-soaked clothes.

Second, the food itself has fallen off a cliff.
The budae jjigae used to be one of the better versions in the area — rich, spicy, deeply savory, decent amount of meat. Now? It’s basically spicy dishwater with a few sad slices of spam and hot dog floating in it. No depth, no umami, barely any gochujang flavor. It tastes like they’re stretching the broth with mostly water and a single spoonful of paste. Pathetic.

Banchan quality is embarrassing. They’re clearly using the bare minimum to fill the little dishes and hoping nobody notices.

Prices have not gone down to match the dramatic drop in quality — they’re actually charging the same or more than they did when the food was good.

Bottom line: They’ve chosen the absolute cheapest possible containers, slashed ingredient quality, thinned every broth, and are still happy to take full price from customers. This isn’t a “bad day” or “off week” — it’s a deliberate decision to cut every possible corner.

If you value your clothing, your skin, and your taste buds, do not come here. There are dozens of better Korean spots in the area that won’t try to injure you or serve you sad soup-flavored water. Zero recommendation. Actively avoid. 1 star only because zero isn’t an option.

Our go to Korean restaurant
We often order their spicy pork bone soup and seafood pancake
However workers aren’t very attentive. It’s hard to track them down for more side dishes

The ribs are the best here! We ordered soup and ribs and the ribs were the best part of our meal. They stay pretty busy but it didn’t take too long to get our order. The price is reasonable.

Great Korean dishes with rich flavors! Pork ribs were tasty and came with a nice amount to feed 4 if you order different dishes. Staff were friendly and gave us sweet smiles. Best seafood pancake ever!

Maht Gaek in Carrollton is a fantastic spot to enjoy authentic Korean food with friends, paired perfectly with soju. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, making it a great place to relax and have a good time.

One of their standout dishes is the soy crab, but it’s a special item that’s not always available. If you’re coming specifically for the soy crab, I recommend calling ahead to check if they have it that day—it’s absolutely worth it when they do! Another must-try is their rib dish with soy sauce, which smells incredible and tastes even better.

The service is friendly and attentive, and the overall experience keeps me coming back. If you’re looking for great food and drinks in a laid-back setting, Maht Gaek is definitely the place to be!

My favorite here was the seafood pancake, it was crispy and lots of flavor! The pork ribs(original) were very delicious, I would definitely order this again! Service was not the best, we asked for more ban chans and we never got it! You need to get there early otherwise it’ll be a long wait even during a weekday!

If you’re looking for a comforting bowl of seolleongtang (ox bone soup) then this the place to go to in Carrollton! I recommend seasoning the broth to taste with salt and black pepper. I like adding kimchi in mine as well. There are no specific rules so do whatever tastes good for you.
Service is great here and there is plenty of parking since it’s in a shared lot with plenty of other businesses. My husband and I had this soup after a long day of traveling and it was like a warm hug. The side dishes as well were very delicious. We had dinner here on a week night so it wasn’t crowded and we were able to get seated right away. If you do come here on a weekend, be mindful that it can get busy and pretty loud inside.
