Started in Oakland California, our Soul food consists of hearty, flavorful dishes that are deeply rooted in African American culinary traditions. Dishes include fried chicken, collard greens, cornbread, macaroni and cheese, candied yams, and sweet potato pie. These dishes are rich in flavor and history, reflecting the cultural heritage of the African American community.

Didn’t know Mahogany existed. Decided to take a chance eating here today. Just a simple clean establishment. Nothing fancy. Reminds me of of a small country restaurant. Was going to order the shrimp po boy until I was told about Big Mamas meatloaf special. I asked if I could have the end cut and was told “of course”. It came with mash potatoes and gravy, corn bread and a side of my choice. Which was dirty rice. The food came out and hot and delicious. It was outstanding meatloaf. The food portions were very fair. I did not leave hungry. This is a legit southern restaurant. I saw they had banana pudding on the menu and had to order it. If you know banana pudding then you understand that it must be made with castle cookies. It was.! Outstanding. I asked our waitress if she was Big Mama. She said she was Big Mama jr. A wonderful woman. Who makes the food there. Great service. I really can’t say enough. Great experience that will stay on n my memories.

The staff was great, and the food was delicious. I tried the Jambalaya for the first time and thought it had good flavor. The shrimp was delicious, and the crispy batter was mouthwateringly good. I appreciated that the restaurant actually removes the shrimp’s digestive tract.
I also had a black coffee. My husband ordered the biscuits and gravy, and he said it was the best he’s ever had. He didn’t need to add extra pepper because it was so flavorful. We also tried their crumble cake. It tasted very vanilla to me, so I let my husband finish it since my stomach can’t handle too much vanilla. Nonetheless, the cake was good, too.
Overall, I have to rate it a 5/5. Go show your love ❤️ and try the delicious food there. (FYI, the garlic truffle oil fries are really yummy!)

My husband and I wanted to try somewhere new to us for dinner this evening and found Mahogany Soul Food in a Google search. It’s tucked back on Parker Road just outside of the Air Base. The space is clean and tidy, currently with some festive holiday touches. We were warmly greeted when we entered by the chef (I believe she is also the proprietor), and our noses were greeted with wonderful, mouth-watering smells from the kitchen. We looked over the menu and had to take a few minutes to decide what we wanted because we were torn between several delicious-sounding options! Hubby finally landed on the smothered pork chop with black-eyed peas, and I decided on the shrimp and grits (add bacon and cheese!) with the red beans and rice. We also ordered a peach cobbler. As we waited for our takeout, we sipped on a Fanta and a Kool-aid. There is perfectly made Kool-aid prepared in large to-go cups in the fridge near the counter, and I really enjoyed mine! After about 15 minutes of hanging out, chatting a bit with the proprietor, and enjoying the music playing over the speaker, our order was ready to go. We eagerly made our way home to dig in. Not gonna lie- had to start with just a bite of the peach cobbler. It was delectable!- sweet, syrupy, and the flavor was top notch. I had to try some of hubby’s pork chop- it was cooked and flavored perfectly, the brown gravy on top was some of the best gravy I’ve had, and the chop was served with a generous portion of gravy-topped rice. SO yummy. I absolutely LOVED my shrimp and grits. The shrimp were big and meaty, and coated with the perfect amount of the most delicious crispy coating. I devoured the shrimp and grits and moaned a “MM MM!” with every bite. The black-eyed peas and red beans and rice were also very good, and the corn muffins were some of the best we have had; I could taste a perfect amount of butter cozily melted in to the muffin’s top. Needless to say, we got too full to finish the cobbler (the lesson here is to ALWAYS start with a bite of dessert!). I have the cobbler safely tucked away to enjoy later. It is so nice to have found a local spot nearby our home with epic eats and such warm service. We can’t wait to go back to try more of the amazing menu (next time we’ll definitely be trying the fried chicken and either jambalaya or a shrimp po’boy – maybe all three for us!). We will be back soon!

They were able to accommodate my families last minute celebration of my niece’s promotion. The food was amazing my favorite was the catfish, cabbage and candied yams. My dad is very picky and he can’t wait to go back. There were 12 of us and everyone loved everything.

Just tried this place for the first time. We originally wanted Subway. But my husband was intrigued by this place so he went in. My husband is Military and she made sure to ask if he was military and made sure he got every side to accommodate us on our first time there. I’ve never tasted better soul food. This is gonna be a favorite in our household. It’s so delicious. Especially the Mac and cheese!!

After attending a birthday celebration, we had to go back for a 2nd time. The food was so good – chicken & fish, fried and seasoned perfectly; cabbage was delicious (I like them better than the greens and they were good also); mac & cheese was perfect and let’s not forget the Mahogany Soul kool-aid…it is good but a little too sweet for me so I added it to a cup of ice w/ water.
Have a special occasion soon and guess where we will be going to eat

Got the chicken and waffles with candied yams. Also tried the mash potatoes and gravy. All was bomb. Took a while to be done but was worth the wait. I’m not usually too into fried chicken but theirs was flavorful and juicy. Excited to go back and try more. The owner was friendly and attentive too

I was so hopeful when I saw a new soul food restaurant on Doordash. I regret ordering dinner here. We got two of the dinner combos with 2 proteins. All in all, we ordered catfish, prawns, smothered chicken, porkchops, Mac & cheese, Cabbage, rice and gravy, and green beans. The catfish was extremely oily, in fact, oil was sitting in the container. The prawns were fried with the full shell and lacked seasoning without it. The smothered chicken was seasoned well but seemed like it possible went straight from oil to gravy. The porkchop was like jerky. The Mac was a laughably small portion, was dry and sitting in oil. The cabbage and green beans were just great and had an interesting smell. Lastly, the rice and gravy lacked seasoning. It took so long to make and cost too much to have such poor food. It sucks because I really wanted to support, but I cannot go back.

Red beans and rice- The first bite immediately had me sitting in a Mississippi kitchen using a wooden spoon to taste what big ma had been cooking all day with an old man sitting on the porch singing the blues while playing a guitar (pronounced gee- tar). The only thing that would make it better is to reduce the salt a tinge.
The green beans – have a uniquely earthy flavor that makes me excited to taste over and over. Again, with a little less salt, i would be signing a portion of my check over to this establishment regularly.
The greens- are better than average. They are seasoned but also on the salty side.
The cabbage- like the green beans, they have a unique flavor to them. They are balanced in terms of seasoning and salt so it pairs amazingly well with the hot sauce. (The cabbage also pairs extremely well with the green beans)
The cornbread – the cornbread is not sweet or salty. It’s made mild which makes it perfect for sopping up the juices of the greens, green beans, and red rice and beans.
The peach cobbler – the cobbler strikes an extremely rare balance in it flavor. It’s so good that you can almost hear the harmony of the solar system during and after it’s in your mouth. This cobbler touched my soul and made me understand the restaurant name.
The owner and employees are extremely charismatic, inviting, and engaging . The music selection makes it a wonderful place to sit and relax.
Some people complain about the price, but the artistry they do in this kitchen makes it completely worth it, and whatever wait may occur do to the popularity they are sure to gain. This is definitely a place to enjoy home cooking blessed by the ancestors.

First, let me begin by saying I’m a strong believer of supporting a new business. I was on my lunch break. On my way to Subway sandwich and I notice this restaurant. I ordered smothered chicken and dressing. I wait for my food for 30 minutes. I sat the whole time watching how they handled food. I was the only one in there, waiting for my food and not one time. Did the lady that cook the food smile, provide eye contact nor greet me.
Finally .. she took the chicken out of the fryer poured a massive amount of gravy over the chicken and my dressing. It was so much that I could barely see the food. I took the food back to my office and proceeded to eat the chicken. Chicken was on the salty side and undercooked, and the dressing was sweet. YUCK! I just wasted $20.. I tried to eat it bc I was hungry and ended up, throwing the rest of it away. I won’t be back. It’s one thing to have substandard food but when you have service that’s substandard and being a new business…. bad bad bad.
Also let me add this… I hope I don’t get sick from scarfing down one drumstick before I realized that it was under cooked.
