We were recommended Mardi Lounge by our hotel landlord but tried another more local Indian restaurant in Hastings which was ok, nice.
The Mardi Lounge was something else, a taste experience that I hadnt had for decades.
Chatting to other diners who were seated near us agreed it was beyond exceptional.
Not only were the complex flavours deliciously crafted, After breaking their ‘Fast’ which happened that eve , they kindly shared an complimentary free dish of mixed chicken pcs, battered aubergine slices, spicy chickpeas and some sweet crispy fried honey coated desert/sweet. We selected Chicken Danzak & Pathia with Mushroom & Pilau rice, it was simply delicious.
Excellent service, warm and friendly & politely mannered, easy to chat with, They also helped to describe meal combinations selections which complimented flavours. Atmosphere/ligting & background music tasteful.
When we return to Rye, it will only be this Indian restaurant we’ll eat at.

I had the most amazing dinner here! I came down from London with some friends and we absolutely loved every dish – the Mokta Gosth lamb, Tarka Dahl and the fish fry were incredible. Better than most of the Indian restaurants I’ve been to in London. The service was also fantastic. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who wants authentic food.

Absolutely fantastic restaurant, amazing food and brilliant service. It was quiet when we were there and were made to feel very welcome. We couldn’t eat all of the food as the portions were very generous, which was a shame because it was very tasty.

Take away- very obliging people and very tasty food. I have 2 questions though:
1- how can you afford to give 10% off for cash? It’s the same food, so there must be a financial benefit.
2- what is that oily yellow ingredient that has stained our kitchen worktop? Can you recommend something to clean it?

Delicious Indian food, made with care and well presented. The dishes were tasty and flavoursome. Being from Australia I found the vegetarian options a bit limited and onion heavy, however they were still nice.
I will happily return to Mahdi Lounge when visiting Rye.

Lovely visit tonight. We’ve just moved to the area and have a tradition of visiting a lovely Indian on our first night in the home. Tonight was fantastic. Excellent service from all the staff and great food. Mixed starter could have benefited from being slightly bigger but was tasty and the message written on the plate was a good extra touch. I opted for the Lamb Jalfrezi and it was flavourful. Wife had the chicken biryani and she said it was great.
