Maharaja Sweets sells a lot of mithai (sweetmeats) and it also doubles as a cafe. Most customers come for the dosa. Chaat is very popular in India and people eat it before dinner usually outside. I like Dahi Papri Chaat which has both taste and color appeal. When my order was placed before me my face fell. Brown upon brown. It had no flavor and after three bites I left it. It should have had thin wheat wafers, yogurt, tamarind and spicy mint chutney and sometimes pomegranate for color. Even the server agreed with me as we discussed this sad rendition. Here there is a clean restroom which is one reason I come here as it’s hard to shop and where does one go to powder one’s nose?

As the name suggests, it’s a good place for sweets. Everything else, I feel like you can skip on. Rasmalai was great, not too sweet and nice portion. Dal makhani was on the bland side and the breading on the chilli pakora was too thick. Definitely stick to the sweets

I’m not a big fan of Indian snacks or sweets, but whenever I visit Jackson Heights, I always make time to stop by Maharaja Café for their tea and some sweets. I absolutely love their samosas — they’re my favorite!
The service is excellent; I’d give them a full 5 stars ⭐️ for doing an amazing job.

Love the food here. I highly recommend the choley puri with chai, it never disappoints. I can never get enough of their food, and their selection of sweets is always interesting and consistently delicious.
Bijay’s service and hospitality are truly top-notch. He treats every customer with genuine care and respect, and his attentiveness adds even more to an already great dining experience.

I bought sweets that cost $15 and paid with a $50 bill. The cashier gave me only $25 in change, which I didn’t check at the time because I trusted her. When I realized the mistake and went back to let her know, she accused me of lying instead of resolving the issue. It was a very disappointing and unwelcoming experience. I can’t speak for the entire business, but that employee needs better training in customer service

Located in the heart of Jackson Heights, Maharaja Sweets is a vibrant spot for authentic Indian sweets and snacks. The moment you step inside, the aroma of fresh jalebis, samosas, and rich curries fills the air. It’s a modest but clean place, with a display counter full of colorful, traditional sweets like gulab jamun, rasgulla, kajukatli, and motichoor ladoos that instantly take you back to the streets of India.
Their chaat items are a must-try—crisp, tangy, and full of flavor. I tried the pani puri and aloo tikki chaat, both of which were fresh and satisfying. The masala chai is also well-balanced and served hot, perfect for a quick tea break.
Service is quick and friendly. Prices are reasonable, especially considering the portion sizes. It’s popular with both local South Asians and anyone craving Indian street food and desserts.
While the seating is limited and basic, it’s more of a grab-and-go or quick-stop type of place. For festivals or special occasions, their assorted sweet boxes are beautifully packed and well received.
If you’re in Jackson Heights and want a taste of authentic Indian flavors, Maharaja Sweets is worth a visit.

Maharaja Sweets is one of the most popular spots in Jackson Heights for Indian sweets and also has a restaurant serving a variety of Indian dishes. I recently visited because I was craving chole bhature.
The ambience is simple and reminds me of a typical restaurant you’d find in India—nothing fancy, but functional. My order was taken quickly, and the food was served within minutes, which I appreciated.
The chole bhature itself was decent. The chole had a flavorful masala with a mix of salty and slightly sweet notes, though overall the taste was just okay. The bhature was fresh, and the dish came with a side of mango chutney that really stood out—tangy, sour, and bursting with authentic Indian flavor. It also came with a sweet (I believe halwa), but it was far too sweet for my palate.
Overall, Maharaja Sweets is worth a visit if you’re craving chole bhature or classic Indian sweets. Don’t expect anything extraordinary, but it does satisfy those nostalgic Indian food cravings.
