I would definitely recommend this spot if you want to enjoy authentic South Indian dishes with generous portions. The dosas are fantastic, and they also offer North Indian curries and biryanis.
I have been a repeat customer of Mahal Tanjore, and it’s truly sad to see how far the quality and portion sizes have fallen. What used to be a wholesome, satisfying meal has now become a shockingly meager serving that leaves you both hungry and disappointed.
The meat portion has been drastically reduced — only two tiny pieces of chicken buried in a mountain of rice. Earlier, the pieces were at least double the size, and the portion felt respectable enough to justify the price. Now, it feels like a mockery of what this restaurant used to stand for.
To make matters worse, they have completely removed the boiled egg that once helped make the meal complete. That small touch used to show care and thought for the customer’s satisfaction — now even that has been stripped away.
It’s honestly disheartening that a restaurant in a prime downtown location would take this profit-over-people approach, reducing quality and portion to such an extent that customers walk away feeling deprived rather than nourished.
Food is supposed to be about hospitality and respect — about feeding another human with care. If a business loses that essence, what remains?
Very, very disappointing. I’ve even attached photos to show the drastic difference — this is not the Mahal Tanjore it used to be.
Chef Mani was very flexible with our catering requirements. I later learned that it was actually his holiday, yet he still took the time to prepare our order — truly appreciate that. The pricing was reasonable, and the order was delivered on time and packaged properly.
We tried the brunch on Saturday as well as some items from the menu and it was to die for.
Mysore masala dosa and onion chilli raha masala dosa were amazing… will come again with the family.
Idly 65 was good.
Kothu : too salty, no raitha with it. (Did it usually come with?)
Dosa : Dosa was cold, (masala inside was warm) : was buy one get one as well, so price is okay I guess.
No checkin from server, delivered food and disappeared.
We felt terrible, and it put us off eating the food. I apologize for adopting such a loud tone, but hearing her rude comments from the kitchen was quite upsetting. She did all of this after we apologized for the issue and did not make a single harsh comment about it.
“And the dessert was missing from the non-veg thali, please feel free to check your cameras to verify this”
Toddlers eat for free with adults!
I would definitely recommend this place if you love South-Indian cuisine.
