Real review! No sugar coating!

I am an oyster lover but this oysters tastes like ?not fresh.

I was expecting that mexican chicharones but surprisingly, it was a skewed pork only. Not the deep fried one

The tijuana style carne asado tacos has this after taste,

But…

I love the oysters with jalapenos! Perfect combination

The chicharones was so crispy! And i love the cola sauce!

I love the pickled onions and pepinos, excellent for the tacos.

And our drinks! Mechelada! Very refreshing!

Thanks to the lovely staff who are very accommodating and very hospitable to their guests!

Lovely food and drinks, relaxing atmosphere and friendly staff. We enjoyed everything about Madre and even stopped at the Saloon beforehand *they offer a discount on drinks at the saloon with your restaurant receipt* so go after rather than before!
Great options available for gluten free, vegetarian and vegan restrictions.

Love love! Polite and quick service. All tacos were super tasty, we ordered 4 tacos between two of us and were perfectly full. The birria tacos was one the best I’ve ever had. We also loved the steak tacos worth the extra cost.

An enjoyable evening with a variety of food. I was pleasantly surprised at the flavour.

Service was a bit on the slow side but the food made up for it. Would definitely consider coming back. I wasn’t blown away by the flavours, but I enjoyed it more than I thought I would.

The food was delicious! Can never go wrong with the pork pibil taco. The Birra taco was also excellent. Service was great and our waiter very friendly. We had lunch with our one year old and the staff were very accommodating. The lighting and decoration is great too. I will definitely be back and highly recommend it.

Madre served me and my dad the best tacos we’ve ever had in Manchester. A lovely Mexican restaurant in Kampus right near Piccadilly Station in the heart of Manchester.
We had the birria tacos which are a MUST order as it comes with a delicious spicy meat sauce, and the pork shoulder tacos. We also had the chips and guacamole combo with comes with three salsas and a delicious bean and queso fresco dip and of course fresh and herby guacamole. The tacos came out fast and the service was absolutely spectacular.
We will definitely be coming again.

Nice looking restaurant but food was a let down.
We’ve ordered Birria tacos and chicken one, decent but nothing special and for the size of them it was expensive. Another friend had grilled ribs and it was nice but it was barely warm when we got it to the table.
We’ve ordered potato started as well – it says on menu garlic cream and nothing about onions. It was covered with thick layer of raw onion! As onion is not everyone’s favourite thing it should have been mentioned on the menu.
Nachos with guacamole was a joke, bland tortilla chips with just avocado as guacamole. That is not what guacamole is…
In general it was okay, but for those prices I wouldn’t return.
Staff were lovely and our male server was very attentive as well.

Some of the best tacos I’ve ever had. Recommend the Birria and Pollo Asada (chicken adobo). Incredible flavours, great dipping source and a superb margarita. Staff are friendly, layout is a little cramped but good atmosphere

Overall I have to say we were quite disappointed with the food at Madre. We’ve been wanting to come here for ages and they’ve got a great deal on, 50% off tacos in January. Luckily we came for the deal as the portion sizes were quite small and wouldn’t have been worth full price! The service was fine, waiters were all friendly and helpful and the food was brought out quickly. Restaurant has a nice vibe and it was busy for a Tuesday night. If I was being really picky and kareny, I’d say the red light wasn’t great as could barely see what things looked like, but that’s just me being not cool and trendy enough. Overall our main complaints were that the food was either too bland or too greasy.

The food we had ranged a lot so I’ll break it down from best to worst:

Birria tacos – 7/10. Best food of the night. The meat was cooked beautifully and was fairly flavourful. Main complaint would be it was so greasy, it really upset my partner’s stomach. Overall it was fine, it was the best out of what we ordered, but in comparison to other Mexican restaurants in Manchester it wasn’t great.

Brussel sprout taco – 6.5/10. Honestly best way I could describe this personally was meh. It was just a lot of mush and the brussel sprouts were quite bitter. Liked the peanut butter element and kudos to them for trying innovative new veggie options.

Costra whipped potato taco – 6/10. Quite bland, some bites were nice and you got the salty crispy cheese, other bites were literally just bland mush. I preferred this to the brussel sprout but my partner was the other way round.

Guac y totopos combo – 4/10. The chips weren’t good, we either couldn’t taste a thing or they were too salty to eat. Guac was literally just avocado. Refried beans and cheese were nice and the salsas were good – they added flavour to our tacos throughout the night. Garlic crema was my favourite.

Baja fish – 3/10. Perhaps better judged by bigger fish easters than us, but we thought we’d give it a go as it sounded really good. Not sure if the fish was meant to be crispy but it was just so mushy and the only flavour you got was just FISH. Maybe sounds stupid but we wanted a bit more from it.

Overall, glad we tried on the discount and still had an enjoyable night as we were just having fun! But given how much we’d looked forward to this, it was quite disappointing and we probably won’t come again.
