All this with a round of cold beers
For example: Slice the beef evenly for sandwhiches. Texture really matters.
Homemade thick-sliced chips are challenging: if too thick and fried moments too long turn them brown and hard. Same for the really thick fries. Recommend offering both with blue cheese melted on top, or serve with sauce. The horseradish mayonnaise could be great, but also had very little horseradish zing.
Service seemed slow for a Saturday afternoon.
Continue to build-out the decor and lighting. Swap out tables and chairs eventually for farm-feel.
Fun: We noticed the gargantuan-size utensils on the wall which reminded some people of Sims.
Good start, keep going! Especially considering the lakeside places close in the offseason and don’t even bother to update their listings, give you a leg up for hungry visitors. : )
Madison Bistro is a charming farm-to-table spot that delivers on freshness, flavor, and service. Our visit started with a zucchini gazpacho (cold soup) that was light, refreshing, and full of taste, an excellent way to open the meal. The salad, while simple, was generously portioned and exceptionally fresh, which is exactly what you hope for from a place focused on local ingredients.
Service was outstanding. Our group of five was seated quickly, and everything from drinks to entrées arrived without delay. The staff was genuinely friendly and in great spirits, which says a lot about how well this place is run.
I ordered the strip steak, which comes with a salad and a side for $29. The portion was moderate, but the quality more than made up for it. Cooked to absolute perfection, the steak was rich with flavor, likely thanks to a rosemary butter basting that elevated every bite. I also sampled the mac and cheese, served in a soft shell, comforting and creamy, though it could have used just a pinch more salt (an easy fix). The zucchini side, sliced and sautéed in olive oil, was fresh and delicate, though also a touch under-seasoned.
Overall, Madison Bistro offers a relaxed dining experience with high-quality, farm-fresh food and excellent service. It’s the kind of small restaurant that leaves you feeling satisfied and well taken care of. Definitely worth a visit, especially since it’s only about 10 minutes from Turning Stone Casino.
Oh, and the employees were very friendly.
No one lied.
We ordered a halibut sandwch special, with mac and cheese, brisket sandwich and fries, and a side Caesar. The brisket sandwich was really good – tender and tasty, and while the Caesar was a bit non-traditional (tomatoes and red onion), it was tasty and fresh. The mac and cheese was really good – super cheesy-filled shells that were the perfect comfort food on a dreary, rainy afternoon. And the halibut? So delicious! Fresh, moist, crisp coating but tender inside. The bread tasted home-made (I admit to not eating all of the bread because I wanted to be sure I could finish the fish) and, like everything we ate, was fresh.
The serving sizes were huge – even peolle who would normally easily clear their plate would definitely be stuffed.
The price was beyond reasonable, especially for the quality of the food we received.
Our waitress was great – friendly, informative, attentive without being intrusive. Overall it was a great experience.
If we’re ever back nearby, we will definitely stop in again.
We came back for a late lunch on our anniversary and it did not disappoint. The seafood chowder rivals some of the best chowders we’ve had in Cape Cod. Rich, hearty and delicious. Our server said the bowl was big and no lie! That would be a meal in itself. My husband had the Elvis Burger and I had the Brisket. My brisket was very tender, no knife needed. The meat was flavorful and the BBQ paired well with the well seasoned brisket. The fries here are awesome and they are the one place in Central New York that actually knows how to make good coleslaw. No room for dessert and there is no need for dinner now! We’re full! Another great experience, well worth the drive and the price paid.
Definitely one of the many gems in Madison County! Nice atmosphere and the weather was beautiful, so we sat outside. Staff was very attentive and friendly. Food was delicious … I ordered the Texas Burger with fries and my husband had the Cowboy Burger. Both burgers cooked to order and the fries were great too. Very glad we made the drive out to try it.
