Such a delicious and satisfying lunch!
I had the bison burger and the word that keeps coming to mind to describe the eating experience is “comforting”. It made me want to take my time and savor each bite. I’ll definitely be back.

A cute restaurant with lots of potential—but the food and service was less than to be desired. There were two staff members kissing in the kitchen, for patrons to see, instead of taking care of their customers. The two other waitresses seemed miserable.

As for the food, if I wanted heat and eat food I would have stayed home. The prices were too high for the quality and portion size.

Given this is the only thing in town, I see why people eat there. But it is an option of necessity—not choice.

Food was great. There was 5 in our group and everything we all had was great. Very clean restaurant and the waitress was great as well. The hot wings were great as well as the Buffalo chicken sandwich. Glad to see another option in the town of Madison. So this review was on our 1st 2 trips.
Now our next 2 visits were a different story. The restaurant was busy today and we were seated in the back area and it took a good while to even place our order. The food did not come out together at all, it was like every 8 minutes or so each one of us would get part of our order. There were 5 people in our group. 1 of the burgers came out with bacon and we asked for the burger without bacon as 1 of us can’t have bacon, so we sent that back. About 10 minutes later the 2nd burger came out and it was about 90% raw after being asked for well done. My Buffalo chicken sandwich this time had no Buffalo sauce on it at all. Certainly not like the first 2 I’ve had here. The wings today were very bland and not hot to the touch at all. The chicken sandwich had no tomatoe this time either. The fries on the first few visits had seasoning on them, today not even salt was added. It’s almost like it’s an entirely different cook now verses the 1st few trips we made. The Buffalo shrimp came on a bed of lettuce originally now it’s just shrimp with hardly any sauce. The hamburger steak and gravy is very light on the gravy and it is as thin as water. I hope they go back to the way they were last week. The waitress said the owner was there and would let them know about the issues today but unfortunately it wasn’t important enough for him to come see us. They removed the braw burger but honestly about 80% of what we had today went in the trash. Please go back to the way you were!!

Our date night took an unexpected turn when we discovered that our regular restaurant had closed. However, this turned out to be a pleasant surprise! We came across Mad Pepper on Main Street in Madison, VA, and decided to give it a try. The cozy atmosphere, friendly service, and delicious dishes made it an ideal choice. My grilled chicken was seasoned and cooked to perfection, and hubby thoroughly enjoyed his fish sandwich with loaded fries. We could not resist the temptation to sample the desserts, which did not disappoint. The S’more cake and lemon loaf were simply exquisite. It is always delightful to discover a new hidden gem together, and we will certainly be returning to Mad Pepper in the future.

Friendly staff, food was excellent, prices reasonable, clean. Plan to go again. Passed up restaurants in Culpeper to go here. I had catfish 2 filets. Wife had haddock 1 filet. Chocolate cake was so good, gone before picture.

My son& his wife were here visiting, wanted to take me out to eat. I asked to go to Mad Peppers , since I hadn’t got to eat here since they opened. It was sorta slow, since it was Monday. The the waitresses and Mngr were so nice. It was so hot outside,it felt wonderful as we sat at our table. All areas were clean, nice atmosphere.

I didn’t expect to see the great options on the menu, so it was hard to choose, everything sounded good. And I thought all choices were reasonably priced.

I decided on chopped steak with onions and gravy with mashed potatoes. (Would’ve liked to had a roll included with meal, but I didn’t need the carbs).
It was very good, potatoes were fresh made, not instant! My son got the Steak salad, and they asked how he wanted it cooked, as the waitress left, he sd that means it’s cooked fresh to order. He was impressed when he saw it and sd it was delicious (and he used to be a chef!) His wife ordered the Bourbon Chicken and sd it was terrific. Of course the way she raved about it she had to give us a taste. And it really was good! We had sweet Tea & Pepsi.
I’ll definitely recommend them and look forward to eating there again soon.
They are on Main St, just a couple blocks from the main hwy, rt.29 and Washington st.

I’m pleased that we have a good restaurant in our little town. I hope locals will keep them busy so they stay open. Some businesses at that location hasnt done well long term. So much better than chain restaurants!

Nice local restaurant with friendly staff and patrons. A few beers on tap and the sweet tea seemed popular. I opted for a Devils Backbone Vienna Lager to go with my fried catfish (nicely prepared) and side of mashed (a little salty). The place was busy on a Wednesday evening but they were well staffed for the patrons at the half dozen booths and tables and 10 bar stools. I opted for the bar since I was solo.

My boyfriend ordered inside while I was on the phone. Asked for a plain burger with blackened seasoning, medium rare, sauteed onions-extra grilled and blue cheese dressing on the side.
The bill was almost 15$ without tip, he waited over 20 minutes and this is what I got: tightly wrapped in a foil and placed inside a standard plastic convenience bag. The bun was so wet from steam and tomatoe juice that it was paper thin and floppy from being soaked through. It was over cooked, onions were disappointing for a 2$ charge and I wasn’t even informed it came with a side as there isn’t a price for just a single burger. This is the 3rd time having a horrible experience. I live in Sperryville so of course it wasn’t worth the time driving back to return it. I don’t understand how they stay open serving food this way. I will make sure to pass around my experience and recommend NOT eating at this establishment.

Ate dinner there with my wife tonight, and we absolutely loved it!!! Our waitress (I think her name was Kristen) was attentive and friendly. The food was fantastic, and brought out promptly. Atmosphere wise it was a bit warm, but overall it was a great experience, and we will definitely be coming back!!

Great mom’s and Pops burger joint. We looked it up after a long hike up in Shenandoah mountains.
Their burgers are great, quarter pound all beef patty burgers cooked to perfection with homemade potato chips. They did not disappoint. We would recommend this if you’re looking for good burgers.
