Had a great time at Mad Mex Shadyside on an absolutely beautiful October day in Pittsburgh. My Apple Cider Margarita was delicious and I’m still thinking about how good it was a week later (which I normally don’t do with Margaritas). I was so impressed with my roasted veggie bowl. The sauce on top was delicious and the mixed peppers and brussels went so well with the chicken – which was cooked perfectly. There were some larger brussel sprouts that were a bit hard but the smaller ones were amazing. My husband loved his burrito and it’s a great size for the price! Our server was so sweet and attentive. I’m so glad they had the wall open to the outside and could seat us close to the outside. It was perfect!

After a solid workout, my son and I decided to grab dinner and chose Mad Mex in Shadyside. From the moment we walked in, the experience started off right. The host greeted us at the front door, and we were seated immediately in a booth. The restaurant was not busy at all very light crowd, which made for a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere.
Our server, Joel, promptly brought our drinks and took great care of us throughout the meal.
Rainbow Salad (Grilled Chicken added): $15.00 + $5.00
Huge portion, fresh ingredients, and very filling. The grilled chicken was well-prepared and complemented the salad perfectly. Definitely a standout dish.
Carnitas Quesadilla: $14.00 Served in three generous sections, packed with flavor. The carnitas were tender and well-seasoned, very satisfying.
Agua Fresca (Seasonal): $4.75
Refreshing and light, a great choice post-workout.
Guacamole (Side): $2.00
Mexican Chocolate Brownie: $9.00
We shared this dessert, which came warm and topped with vanilla ice cream and whipped cream. Absolutely delicious and the perfect way to end the meal.
Subtotal: $49.75
Total (with tax): $53.24
Food: Fresh, flavorful, and generous portions across the board.
Service: Joel was attentive, friendly, and efficient without hovering.
The atmosphere: Clean, calm, and comfortable, especially nice with the lighter crowd.
Everything from being seated immediately to the quality of the food made this a very enjoyable visit. I’ll definitely be returning to explore more items on the menu. Mad Mex delivered a solid dining experience, and this visit reinforced why it remains a popular spot in Pittsburgh.

My waitress Mikayla was amazing & my dinner (Grilled Steak & Street Corn tacos) was delicious! Mikayla was very sweet and brought refills very quickly. This location is often a bit loud but today wasn’t bad. I had a birthday coupon so my entree was free, just paid for my drink and tip. Love this place and will be back

I actually really liked this place. It’s located in a prominent part of the town with a lot of other restaurant and businesses, so this area is quite happening over the weekends. The restaurant itself is huge, and they have a perfect mix of indoor outdoor seating. It was quite busy when we visited. I wouldn’t call the food authentic Mexican, but it was still very tasty. We got the birria quesadilla and it was a flavour bomb. So good. We also got the nachos with chicken and again. It was very tasty. The chicken wings were just so so. I tried couple of their margaritas, and all of them were very, very good. My personal favourite is the mango. One which taste just like mango juice which I used to drink as a child. Also, the habanero Margarita is the perfect mix of sweet and spicy. The service was excellent and our server was so nice welcoming. It’s a great spot to hang out with friends.

We had our dinner here. We took chicken/beef fajita and big burrito. The portions are big enough. Tastes were okay. Sauces were sufficient and service was good. Prices are reasonable.

I have loved Mad mex for years but food quality has gone to crap at this one. When questioned why the basics have changed so much they said oh we are a test kitchen. I am adding pictures the sad looking chicken tenders are from this mad mex the other is the mad Mex by airport that was fantastic!! Highly disappointed. When the staff came out said oh all others are the same we aren’t. So they lack the quality that the other ones have. They offered to change dishes but waitress was MIA most of time never refilled drinks. Finally gave up and left wishing we would have drive to the other one.

Mad Mex was great! The food was delicious, the portions were generous, and I especially love the decor. This is a beautiful restaurant and it is so fun. My one note is that the anniversary margarita was very salty for some reason, but the standard margarita that I got afterwards was delicious. This is a perfect Mexican joint with great specials and a wide array of choices to make everyone happy. Will be returning!

Mediocre Mexicana
7/10 Experience
The food was basic, cooked well but not that flavorful
⭐️Great Happy Hour Deal
– Added shrimp to nachos grande and got about 6 shrimp,
– Strawberry Mango Margarita was pretty good but didn’t really taste the flavor of drink. (Tasted like generic margarita mix)
– San Francisco sauce with wings was pretty tasty
➕Server also took about 10 minutes in between each time I saw them although restaurant was fairly empty

Excellent Mexican food with some vegetarian options. The portion sizes are big. Beverage selection is awesome. Ambience is chill and noise level is perfect for conversations.
