Over the three years I’ve been on Bermuda, I’ve had the opportunity to visit many restaurants across the island. The one restaurant that always remained as one of my favorites was the Mad Hatters. There’s a bit magic, as you traverse through a simple maze of roads slightly off Front Street, which leads to a restaurant with a rustic charm.

The food is consistently fantastic, with staff who are both amazing and friendly. From their warm greeting, to the time they seat you to your table, they cast the beginning of a story to a menu selection that is reimagined.

The menu varies on a weekly basis, providing you with a varied selection of ever changing choices based off the chef’s inspiration. What drew me the most and always kept me coming back, was their Set Course Lunch Menu, offered only Tuesday through Friday (11AM to 2PM). You have the choice of a 2 Course Selection at $30 or 3 Course Selection at $38, with an Appetizer, Entree and/or Desert to choose from, with each course in itself having several options to choose from.

If there’s only one restaurant you can choose from during your visit, then I recommend you come to the Mad Hatters to experience a bit of magic. Now that I’ve moved back to Canada, the Mad Hatters will always be a pleasant memory to recall when I think of Bermuda.

If you’re considering dining at Mad Hatters, do it. The atmosphere is welcoming and warm with a touch of whimsy. The service is just lovely, unpretentious, like being invited over for a meal by a friend. The menu is concise, and the specials are just that. I started with the soft shell crab which was cooked perfectly and topped with a sauce that demanded my full attention. For the main I tried their sampling of venison, quail and pork- each cooked to perfection simply highlighting the best qualities in each. We finished with the crème brûlée- . Nothing about the food felt rushed or frivolous. It’s not a “fancy” restaurant, but the food is some of the best I’ve ever had.

One of the best meals we have ever had!! Should be a Michelin star restaurant. Everything on the menu is fantastic but the specials are always to die for!! Mark and Shantel provide amazing service and always steer you in the right direction when it comes to ordering. Our taste buds were in heaven!! Can’t recommend enough. A must when you are in Bermuda!!

The chef is clearly very good at his craft. Everything was delicious. If we are to go again, I would like to try even more items on the specials menu. Although the leg of duck is in everyone’s opinion the best main course of all!

Stepping into Mad Hatter’s Restaurant in Bermuda is like tumbling down the rabbit hole into a culinary wonderland. The Alice in Wonderland-themed decor is both whimsical and charming, offering a delightful backdrop to an unforgettable dining experience. The star of the show, however, is their cheeseburger, accompanied by a side of perfectly crispy fries and rich, savory gravy. It’s not just a meal; it’s a masterpiece of flavors that leaves you craving more. A true gem in Bermuda’s dining scene, Mad Hatter’s earns a well-deserved four stars from me. Don’t miss the chance to dine in this enchanting setting!

As usual I was not disappointed with the food, service or the atmosphere. Had my 2 friends with me and it was their first dining experience at Madhatters. Delicious ,crunchy and fresh were some of the words they used to describe their meal.

Picture 2 travelers at a crosswalk in Hamilton wondering out loud which pub to check out, and out of nowhere, this man – Ben – comes around and gives awesome suggestions. Needless to say, he is a local, but also mentions that he is the head chef at Mad Hatters and that we should try and check it out while on vacation. Fast forward to NYE’s eve and we decided to take our chance to grab seats as walk-ins the moment they opened. We weren’t able to call ahead as we only had internet service on our phones. The host, although doubtful, was kind enough to check and luckily there were 2 seats, orchestra nonetheless, that we just needed to vacate by 8pm.

The restaurant atmosphere was exactly what we were looking for – intimate, but not stiff. The menu was small and made it easy to choose, but also challenging to not want to order everything! We ordered bacon-wrapped scallops with a pepper, mango, tamarind glaze for appetizers, and the sauté rock fish with a banana nut crust & dark n’ stormy sauce and surf and turf special for our entrees. Let me tell you, we were so glad that this was our last dinner before leaving Bermuda. Everything was so good, and you can tell that the dishes were made to order and fresh! Ben, as it turns out is not just the head chef, but also part-owner. During service, he casually sang and danced his way out of the kitchen, spotted us, and made sure to acknowledge that he remembered us, and he was thankful we were able to dine in, as we were just as thankful for the pub recommendations and leading us to his restaurant. He even invited us for champagne for their New Year’s Eve celebration at midnight! If only we weren’t flying back home in the morning…

If there’s one place worth checking out and dining to when you’re in Bermuda, it’s definitely at Mad Hatter’s. Fine dining, but with a relaxed atmosphere, outstanding food, and amazing people.

It’s an eccentric themed restaurant that feels a bit like a pub. The “Mad Hatter” theme is evident from the multitude of hats hanging from the ceiling, and some quirky decor.

But we should talk about the food: a tasty menu – there were too many dishes I wanted to try – and abundant off-menu specials options.

I went for lemon sole roulades; my wife had bordelaise steak.

The dishes came in generous portions, with vegetables served to share at the table.

Hands down a great experience. For one, the many Specials, it was so hard to choose. The crab was delicious and the sauce was perfect. Same for the tenderloin and shrimp. Everything was devine!!! A must try!!
