Neat atmosphere. Old garage made into a restaurant with some of the grittiness still there.
Tried several meats and sides
Brisket had good taste and smoke flavor. The local smoked sausage was really good. Ribs were excellent. Chicken was juicy.
Only negative was meat should have been hotter. Would have made this 5 stars.
As for sides, cornbread was great, baked beans were really good with pulled pork mixed in. The cole slaw had a good pepper flavor and was creamy.
The mac and cheese was awesome. So good. I also tried the Potato salad. Really good. Great taste and texture to all the sides.
Also have Schells beer on tap.
Good fair prices, decent fair portions. Give it a try, you won’t be disappointed.

Great place. Stopped through on a drive east on a Sunday late afternoon. We got the Mac’s Combo and really enjoyed all our picks, brisket was fatty and flavorful, ribs were were done perfectly, real chicken wings, and you can’t go wrong with the cucumber/onion, m&c, and omg great cornbread! Even the the butter was wonderful! Wonderful service to top it off! Definitely will be back whenever we are back this way!

Stopped by chance, and found a gem! We were waited on by a very friendly and efficient gentleman named Tim. He made excellent recommendations on the offerings at the restaurant. I had the brisket sandwich which was absolutely incredible. I love the homemade beans and slaw. I absolutely cannot wait until my next drive through town so that I can eat there again. I also love that everything from the sauces to the sides were completely homemade.
Absolute barbecue perfection with a generous helping of friendliness and excellent service, with shockingly affordable prices. I have eaten BBQ all over the USA, and the prices were roughly 1/2 of what I usually pay for good BBQ, and this was well past good, and without question in the “great” category.

Reviews looked great, so we found a different route to our destination so we could stop. I have to agree with the reviews. Fantastic ribs, brisket and pull pork sandwich. Pork was rich and smokey. Brisket had a good smoke ring. Kids meals were a steal at $5. Our server was also fantastic. We’ll definitely be making this our new route to be able to stop again.

Loved the environment, the garlic BBQ sauce, etc. Reviews gave lots of suggestions. Tried the brisket, ribs, pulled pork, smoked sausage, mac n cheese, baked beans, corn bread, etc. So good – tender, juicy, etc. Mac introduced himself and he with staff was so friendly and welcoming. Definitely going there again! Oh and the maple butter on the corn bread is wonderful!!!!

It is not called Macs Smokehouse anymore…it is now called “The Shedd.” Fun place to go for a casual meal. It was definitely an improvement over the last person who ran it for a short time. Food is good, the atmosphere is relaxed, and the service is excellent. Restaurant is clean and friendly place.

This place is a gem! I’ve had BBQ all over the country including Texas and this wonderful spot in a small town in Minnesota is among the best of them. The food, service and setting are perfect. Outstanding food and friendly folks. Don’t miss it.

Best Brisket North of the Mason Dixon Line!! I’ve traveled all around the world and this is the best bbq I’ve ever had! All of the sides and sauces we’re delicious as well…be careful of the spicy sauce..it really has some kick!
The restored service station is very unique! Staff was wonderful and even met Mac, the owner.
Would highly recommend Macs Smokehouse!
