Hush puppies excellent. Tomato relish very good. Servers friendly and efficient. Clean tables. Fries average. Beans ok. Fried cod-freezer burn taste and greasy. Would highly not recommend the fish and chips.

This was our visit and won’t be our last. Let me first say, I am not a hush puppy eater and I are 6, they were SO good and they were sweet and not oily at all, which is what I am used to. Our fish, beans and slaw was also very good.

Clean and friendly environment.

Everything about El Rey’s was great! It wasn’t busy when we were there, so we were seated right away. Chips and salsa were served from the moment we arrived. The menu has a lot of options. Once we ordered, we didn’t have to wait too long to get our food. Great portion sizes, and everything tasted amazing! We’ll definitely be back!

They have the best hushpuppies around. Their catfish is delicious. We always go there to eat when we go over there to the Sugarloaf dance. Highly recommend this place.

Visiting family and my husband & I stopped by to get a bite to eat. It was a wonderful delight. Though, I wish they weren’t out of the walleye because I never had it before and was sooo wanting to try it.
The staff were very nice & polite. We will be back again when we go visit family.

This is our go to eating place when we are traveling through Heber Springs. The catfish is so good and the accompanying bean bar is the perfect touch with perfectly seasoned cooked beans, and not to sweet crunchy fresh coleslaw as well as pepper chutney to go with every meal. The hush puppies on a scale of 1-10 are a 6. I have never met a hush puppy in a restaurant that was really good. I believe it is because they make them to please the masses. This means they are not made with a lot of flavor (no onions). Mack’s are bland, but they are not dense or greasy which makes them editable. Truthfully a really great hush puppy can only be made at home. Mack’s always has a lot of seating and parking and super friendly fast wait staff. If you love catfish this is a great sit down place for lunch or dinner. There is a great variety of other fish and menus items but we go for the generous helping of fish.

Out waitress has always been nice and attentive. Food here seems expensive for what you get. Two small chicken strips and a baked potato were $14, plus drink and taxes. I thought the chicken strips tasted good. It also took a long time to get our order even though it wasn’t very busy. The hubs ordered chicken fried chicken and said it was not good and didn’t finish it (he is not hard to please). His meal included mashed potatoes and was $18. The beans on the bean bar are the best part and are very good. We prefer savory hushpuppies and these are more like sweet bread. Overall, we feel we will not choose this place again. This was our third time to eat here in the past year. The fish is good, the steak is pretty good. We just feel we can get better value and quality at some of the other places in town.

Stopped in for an afternoon bite to eat. We had cheeseburgers and a salad, all very fresh and tasty. The complementary hushpuppies were amazing! Wait staff was awesome! Highly recommend this restaurant.

We stopped for lunch on a Saturday and had the lunch special, fish and chips w the bean bar for $13. They were really busy and we waited about 15 minutes for a table. Server was very good but they appeared to be understaffed. Hushpuppies came out first, very good and light. The bean bar was a nice surprise, and turned out to be the star, pinto beans well seasoned with slaw and pickled green tomatoes. Both slaw and tomatoes were sweet—they like sugar here. The fish and chips arrived and the portions were not very generous nor was the presentation on the plate appealing. The cod looked like someone opened a box of Mrs. Paul’s filets, then overcooked them. The batter coating was hard and thick, but the cod was mushy and seemed undercooked, like the oil was too hot and overcooked the batter but left the fish raw. The cod had a fishy taste and neither of us finished our plates. Note to self: Don’t order ocean fish at a small restaurant 1,000 miles from where it was caught. It’s going to be frozen and therefore mushy when it’s fried. The dining hall is a cavernous open room with no appealing decor other than a nice saltwater aquarium. Nice servers, no decor, meh food.
