I need to try more of the food to form a better opinion, but here is what we had. The wings were excellent! My son, who is super picky, helped me eat them, and this kid only eats chicken nuggets, so that was great. I also had the pulled chicken sandwich. It was very good with a super sweet BBQ sauce. The sweetness wasn’t really my thing, but overall, it was a good sandwich.
My wife had the ribs, which were pretty dry. They were dry on one side of the rack and more juicy on the other end. My kids both had the Mac n Cheese, which they were not fans of, but they also rate Kraft Mac N Cheese as a 10 out of 10, so take that as you will.
In the end, I liked the place and will definitely return and enjoy it as they grow. It’s worth a try if you like bbq!
The menu has a good selection of meats and sandwiches and does not overwhelm with too many choices. We ordered the sampler which came with two selections and meat and two sides. We opted for the brisket and the pulled pork with a side of cornbread and coleslaw.
The brisket was super tender and tasted amazing! By far one of the best briskets I’ve had. The pulled pork was good but would like a bit more seasoning. The cornbread is is good and is like a loaf vs crumbly, I liked this better than other cornbread I’ve had. The coleslaw was good and was not heavy on the mayo.
The service was super fast and very friendly! The atmosphere was the only downside given the noise level, it was pretty loud which made it hard to talk as it got busier. We definitely will be coming back here again soon!
Their service is top-notch, adding to the overall enjoyable experience. Plus, their points system is a fantastic perk, letting you redeem rewards for free food!
Definitely give them a try—you won’t be disappointed!
Pros:
Nicely decorated restaurant with comfortable seating and nice bar area. I really like the exterior mural with the Maryland and American flags. They did a great job of decorating an old and outdated building.
Attentive and very personable bartender. Lightning fast food service.
Cons:
We ordered a two meat sampler which consisted of brisket, pork ribs, Texas, barbecue beans, and mac & cheese. It was plenty for two.
Their food is served in little aluminum pans with paper plates, and plasticware.
Our brisket was fork tender and it was a decent portion. However, we could not taste the brisket because it was swimming in barbecue sauce. It was not good.
The pork ribs were dry although some parts were moist and tender. It came pre sauced, but thankfully it was not drenched. It was a solid portion as well. Of the two meats this was the better option.
The Texas baked beans tasted like they opened a can of bushes baked beans and called it a day. They are supposed to have brisket in them, although I did not find any in my portion. If you like bushes baked beans, you will like these.
The mac & cheese was good and a solid option for a side dish. It was a nice balance of noodles and cheese.
I really wanted to like Mackie’s and I’m disappointed that I did not. They have several other restaurants, so I was hoping that after five months in they would’ve nailed down the food at this location as well.
Our order was brought out on new cookie sheets trays with colorful and fun baking tips. The silverware is plastic ware and the sandwiches served on cardboard paper plates.
The brisket sandwich was 4 slices easily 1/2” thick. The beef was approximately 4” x 4” each. The beef was a nice soft chew and delicious. The fries were cooked perfectly, but we did ask for salt and pepper to kick them up a notch. The coleslaw was fresh, bright and colorful. I recommend storing as a lot of the dressing is settled on the bottom of the cup.
The corn muffins light and airy and no grit at all.
The drinks of coke are $1.95 for a 12oz can and $1.25 for refills.
Sweet tea and Arnold Palmer are the other options.
TV’s are being installed.
Staff highly attentive.
Bbq sauce and southern vinegar sauce also sold by the bottle. Tee shirts also sold
I recommended char broiled hamburgers and corn on the cob and apple sauce . They have corn on the cobs for catering events.
I welcome them and highly recommend them.
My wife and I wanted to get a quick bite to eat but didn’t want to go to our regular spots. We decided on Mackie’s and we are so glad we did. We were greeted right away by Cam (the owner) with a warm smile and welcoming manner. We hadn’t been here before so Cam gave us two menu’s and told us to have a seat, look it over and when we were ready to come back up. The food came out quick. It was fresh and DELICIOUS. We were so satisfied and pleased with the taste and quality of the food. Cam checked in on us a few times and was very delightful.
So many times throughout our dinner, my wife and I kept telling each other how good the food was and how we are definitely coming back.
We had the liquor infused dessert and that was delicious as well.
Thank you Cam and Mackie’s for a wonderful meal and experience. We will definitely be back.
