I almost never write reviews but this experience was fantastic! Everything from the food to service and conversations with the owners were truly valued.
This is without a doubt the best mexican or peruvian food you will get in Indianapolis and their ingredients and dedication back that claim up. Finding a place that has good ají de amarillo is hard anywhere not in NYC/LA and for it to be so prominent on the menu combined with their homemade bread is fantastic!!

Took food writer for Indianapolis Monthly’s Terry Kirts’ advice today and had an incredible lunch here today. I may never want to eat guacamole with chips again after eating it with the homemade focaccia and sourdough that this place serves up. FYI- it is the best focaccia I’ve had in Indy. Yes, I said it. And let’s talk about that delicious guacamole … it has so much cilantro in it -stems and leaves and that makes a huge difference in the taste. I had the mole chicken enchiladas. Too often, I find mole sauce is too sweet. This mole is delicious particularly with all of the sesame seeds on top. And the pickled vegetables that they serve with their meals are so good that I could eat those on top of everything!!! I did not taste my husband’s because I was too busy eating my own so I’m not gonna speak to that, but he said it was incredible. He had the traditional sandwich. We did not have room for dessert which I now regret but we’re gonna go back. And I walked out with a loaf of their sourdough and a 1/4 piece (still HUGE) piece of focaccia. I love this place!! GO!

The food was amazing and the customer service was top notch! You can tell the owner takes great pride in producing authentic, flavorful dishes. The atmosphere is bright and beautiful and welcoming. We had the fruit with chamoy for an appetizer…so fresh and flavorful…highly recommend. For our meals we had the tamales, tacos and torta. And the sangria was fresh and delicious! Thank you for a wonderful meal and experience!

Located in a strip mall near Eagle Creek Park (Intech Commons), Macizo Restaurant is a standout culinary destination that masterfully fuses authentic Mexican and Peruvian flavors. Owned by couple Luz and Omar Gonza, who bring their heritage from both countries to the menu, the restaurant offers a warm, homey atmosphere that feels like a hidden gem in Indianapolis.
Signature Dishes & Flavors
The menu highlights a dedication to fresh ingredients and traditional techniques, such as house-nixtamalized corn for their tamales.
Salsa Macha: This house-made chili crisp-style sauce is a must-try, offering a hearty kick from morita and árbol chiles. Many diners consider it an essential accompaniment to their meal.
Sopa Criolla: A comforting Peruvian staple, this rich broth features tender diced beef, potatoes, and angel hair pasta, finished with a sunny-side-up egg and a side of house-made sourdough.
Enchiladas Verdes: These chicken enchiladas are smothered in a flavorful, fresh salsa verde (which contains peanuts) and topped with sour cream, queso fresco, and cilantro.
The Dining Experience
Beyond the food, the service at Macizo is frequently praised for its personal touch. Luz often walks guests through the menu and the story behind their fusion concept, adding to the welcoming environment.

This is officially my new favorite restaurant in Indianapolis. After living abroad for a year, it was on the top of my list to visit when we returned. We went within days of landing back stateside and were warmly greeted by the owners. I already loved the experience before we even sat down. As we were walking to our table, we ran into a fellow Yelp Elite / Indy food influencer, so you just know it’s the place to be.

Our table wanted to order as many things as possible because everything sounded AMAZING. We started with the guacamole bowl because, obviously. Also, it comes with homemade sourdough bread that they make daily which was incredible too.

As I was reading the menu, I read that the tamales are nixtamalized and ground in house. That is a huge deal as that’s a more laborious process but is the absolute best way for humans to consume corn. “The processing renders the protein more digestible, allowing tryptophan to be absorbed by humans.” Probably 90% of corn you eat out isn’t nixtamalized so this shows that they know food and really care. We immediately ordered the tamales and they were the best I’ve EVER had.

I absolutely love lomo saltado, so when I saw the burrito de lomo saltado, I was immediately sold. It was big, fresh, well-prepared, and came with a side of bean salad. I would order it again immediately. I wish I could have it again now, but it’s only 9am – LOL.

I’ve heard amazing things about the tiradito tuna appetizer, pasta huancaina, and mole enchiladas too. We were a group of eight and every single person’s plate was completely empty by the end of our meal. Everyone was so happy with the experience and it was made even sweeter when the owners brought out freshly-made Mexican sweet bread that they’d just made for everyone to try. I mean… what a dream!!!

We had our toddler with us and were so appreciative of the kid’s menu, the fact that they had highchairs, and the comfortability of the space being so family friendly. We chatted with the owners before leaving and it was truly such a memorable, delicious evening. Thank you so much! We’ll be back and will be singing your praises ongoing!

We can’ say enough good thing about this place. Genuine and authentic. We found this on the internet (looking for new and uniques eatery in Indianapolis) which was not hyped by Tiktok nor IG. This is a place that bring Mexican / Peruvian dishes from their ‘back home’ (how it is made and eaten!) to life here. Owners/chefs are from Mexico and Peru. The ingredients are fresh (they make their Tiger’s Milk every day/ every time freshly used!) and the flavors are remarkable. The waitress/hostess/owner would tell us her favorites which you cannot go wrong with. The tuna (cerviche) and guacamole appetizers are must have. They are not the usual American style. Also make sure you get to enjoy their home baked bread! Our younger guests love the yuba horchata (Purple Horchata). Casual, enjoyable, fulfilling and warm – We hope this place will continue to do well and stay as a gem in the community and the neighborhood.

This place may have changed my life! Such a shame I live in Virginia! I enjoyed the hibiscus drink and food special. The homemade spicy sauce was smokey and incredible. The service was quick and attentive. Highly recommend!

My daughter learned about Las Posadas in school and we decided to try Macizo to celebrate, having heard good things. Completely lived up to the expectations. Food was excellent, service was prompt and they were so kind to our small children. We will be back and already bought some of their salsa macha to use at home. Completely deserving of the high reviews.

We enjoyed ourselves immensely. Another review got this spot added to our “want to go” map category. So glad we stopped in. We were warmly welcomed and some popular menu items were pointed out. We tried 2 different agua frescas, the guacamole bowl, enfrijoladas, and taco norteno. I will admit we were surprised to see bread in place of chips with guacamole. But the bread alone is worth going back for. As a native San Franciscan this sourdough was top notch, and the focaccia was possibly the best I’ve ever had. I felt the enfrijoladas were missing some acid but were perfect with the guacamole we ordered. And the taco norteno was top tier comfort food.

There’s a reason we all learned to say “tango hambre” the first week of Spanish class. ¿Tiene hambre usted? ¡Va a Macizo Ahora!

Delicious! We have been here on a date night and came back to bring our family. This is a wonderful family run business. Food is excellent and the service is terrific. They are quick to make suggestions on their menu. Don’t go home without a loaf of their homemade sour dough bread! Sangria was so refreshing! Will come back soon!
