had a pretty disappointing experience at Machete Cocina in Woodbury. We ordered our food through DoorDash, arrived at the restaurant, waited about five minutes, and then decided to go inside because we wanted to eat there instead of taking the food somewhere else.

We spoke with the boy at the counter, who was polite, explained the situation, and then sat down at the counter area while waiting to be seated. After a bit, he came back and told us we would need to order something in order to sit down, which we said was completely fine, and we told him we were willing to order additional food so we could sit and receive service.

Despite telling them we would order something, they still refused to let us sit and eat. What made the situation more frustrating was that our DoorDash order had already been finished and was sitting on the counter behind us for about 5–10 minutes without us realizing it. We only noticed when we turned around to check on the employee again and had to get his attention.

When we asked him about it, he said “oh sorry,” but he seemed very confused and out of it, almost like he wasn’t fully paying attention to what was going on.

To be fair, the employee himself seemed nice and may have just been following instructions from someone else, however the overall situation didn’t make much sense. There were several open tables, and we made it clear we were willing to order more food and pay for service.

What made it more disappointing is that the couple of times I have eaten inside before, aside from the other times I have ordered through DoorDash, we tipped phenomenally well, honestly more than what some servers probably make hourly, so the assumption that we wouldn’t tip or wouldn’t be worth serving felt unfair.

Overall, refusing to let us sit, despite open tables and our willingness to order more, felt unnecessary, selfish, and inconsiderate. I hope management reevaluates how situations like this are handled in the future.

The waitress was super nice and friendly and very attentive. The chips that were served with the chips and salsa were great. Personally I thought the salsa tasted like tomato soup…
The shrimp tacos were spicy but if you took the salsa off the top it helped but then lacked a little flavor. But the rice that was served with them was very good not dry and tasted really good.
I had the birria tacos and they were pretty good had a nice flavor to them. One thing I wished that the shells were a little more crunchy. I also dipped my chips is the consome and it was really good.

Pretty good overall. Similar to other Ocampo properties, but with some unique items. Our bill for 4 lower-to-mid-price meals and 1 shared appetizer, no alcohol only 2 sodas, was $100 (March 2026). The salsa served with the chips was different, but interesting, complex, and good. The verde sauce was great. The rice was rather bland. The rest of the items were all pretty good.

I used to really enjoy coming to this restaurant and have had many good experiences here in the past, which makes my most recent visit on Saturday particularly disappointing.

When I arrived, the doors were locked, and customers had to ring a bell to be let in. When I asked why, I was told it was “to keep you know whom out,” which was explained as a way to prevent authorities from entering the restaurant. That explanation made me uncomfortable and left a very negative impression.

I’m also concerned about the safety aspect of keeping the doors locked while the business is open. In an emergency situation, this could potentially make it harder for people to exit quickly, which seems unsafe and possibly against safety regulations.

From the conversation, it sounded like the policy may be intended to avoid interactions with authorities related to immigration issues, although I cannot say that for certain. Regardless of the reason, the situation made the atmosphere feel uncomfortable and unwelcoming.

Additionally, openly suggesting that rules or authorities should be avoided sends the wrong message, especially in a place where families and children are present. In my opinion, that kind of attitude shows a disregard for the law and does not set a good moral example for kids and families.

For context, I am Hispanic myself, and I still strongly believe in respecting and following the laws of the country. That is part of why this situation bothered me.

The food and service in the past have been good, which is why this experience was so disappointing. I hope the management reconsiders this approach, because it detracts from what used to be a place I genuinely enjoyed visiting.

Food was very bland, our server was nice, but never came back until we were done eating,
Ordered the chicken quesadilla it came with no lettuce or tomato.
Ordered the jalapeño poppers and wth!! 5 just ordinary 1/2 of a pepper and only 1 inch long jalapeños inside and 2 inches of breading. A waste of money! Walmart has better ones for cheaper.

This place is amazing!! Food is and the service is excellent. The staff is very, very friendly. Very clean with a chill atmosphere. Might be considered a little pricey, but it’s not too bad. This was my first time here and I’m a big fan. I’ll definitely be back.

We had our wedding catered by Machete Cocina this September and had a wonderful experience! The food was great and had many dish options for our guests (we did a taco bar with sides), we received lots of compliments from our guests on the dinner! They were very flexible with us leading up to the wedding when we made changes to our menu/guest count, and were easy to communicate with via email. We were able to make our payments online as well. The staff did set up and take down very efficiently and even packaged up the leftovers and put them in the fridge for us. They cleaned up the catering dishes as well as the guests’ dishes (also provided by caterer). Everything went very smoothly and we appreciate the excellent service and food at our wedding!

I have mixed feelings about this restaurant. Let me start by saying that the gentleman at the host stand was welcoming and down-to-earth, greeting us with a smile. However, after we were seated, it took several minutes for our server to check on us, despite the restaurant being nearly empty with only three other families, all attended to by other servers.

When she finally arrived, she wasn’t very friendly. She took our drink order. My Tito’s/cranberry was perfectly made, and my wife had water. We ordered the off the cob elote, but unfortunately, it was disappointing. The corn was extremely soft, possibly canned or leftover, making the dish unappetizing.

For our entrees, my wife ordered the burrito bowl, and I got the chicken and shrimp fajitas. The fajitas were excellent, perfectly seasoned with a generous portion. My wife found her bowl just okay, nothing special. Throughout the meal, our server seemed out of sync, and we had to ask another server for a plate. I did like the decor it was very nice, it gave off that Mexican vibe a restaurant should have.

I’d consider giving this place another try, but I wouldn’t order the elote again, and I’d request a different server next time.

One of the, if not “the best” place for authentic Hispanic food in Woodbury and neighboring areas. Service is always top notch and they never disappoint. Don’t forget the 2 for one margaritas and reduced price of tacos for happy hour

Tonight we realize the real gem of a restaurant in our neighborhood. Great atmosphere and good food with excellent service. We enjoyed the flavorful and slightly hot wings. We recommend the Margaritas flights to start. My wife enjoyed the fajitas and I choose the polla Cancun. Excellent flavor all around. We will be back!
